In 2025, United States President Donald Trump issued executive orders targeting law firms that represented clients who have opposed the president. [1]
On February 25, the President issued an executive order that suspended the security clearances of lawyers at Covington & Burling that represented Jack Smith, who acted as special counsel for the Justice Department in its criminal investigations against Trump, and directed government agencies to terminate contracts with the firm to the extent permitted by law.
