49er & 49er FX Asian Championships are annual Asian Championship sailing regattas in the 49er and the 49er FX classes organised by the International 49er Class Association.

The 49er and 49er FX is a two-handed skiff-type high-performance sailing dinghy. The two crew work on different roles with the helm making many tactical decisions, as well as steering, and the crew doing most of the sail control. Both of the crew are equipped with their own trapeze and sailing is done while cantilevered over the water to the fullest extent to balance against the sails.

The 49er World Championships are international sailing regattas in the 49er and 49er FX classes organized by the International Sailing Federation. It was first held in 1997. In 2013, the 49er FX class was added to the programme.
Sailing competitions at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place from 25 July to 4 August 2021 at the Enoshima Yacht Harbor in Enoshima. The venue was also used for the 1964 Olympic Games although significantly regenerated, the IOC now encouraging regeneration, cost reductions and sustainability. The RS:X, Laser, Laser Radial, Finn, 470, 49er, 49erFX, and Nacra17 are all returning for 2020; there are no significant changes to the Olympic programme from 2016.
Varsha Gautham is an Indian sailor. She won the bronze medal at 2014 Asian Games in women's 29er event, along with Aishwarya Nedunchezhiyan. She is the youngest Indian to win an Asian Games medal, at the age of 16. She won Silver medal at 2018 Jakarta Asian Games in 49er event along with Sweta Shervegar.
Kahena Kunze is a Brazilian sailor in the 49er FX class. Together with Martine Grael she won the 49er FX class at the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships and a gold medal in the inaugural 49er FX race, during the 2016 Rio Olympics, a feat both repeated at Tokyo 2020.

This article details the qualifying phase for sailing at the 2020 Summer Olympics. 350 quota places for the Games are entitled to the sailors coming from their respective NOCs, based on the results at designated regattas supervised by World Sailing. Host nation Japan has been guaranteed one quota place in each of the ten classes.
Lim Min, known as Kimberly Lim, is a Singaporean sailor. She was a multiple medalist in various sailing classes in various editions of the Asian Games and also the champion of the Optimist World Championships in 2011. She participated in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Susann Beucke is a German sailor who competes offshore races of the Figaro Bénéteau 3 and IMOCA 60 classes. Before focusing on offshore sailing she competed in Olympic sailing, primarily in the 49er FX class, winning the silver medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo along with Tina Lutz, representing Germany.
Rui Qi "Cecilia" Low is a Singaporean sailor. She competed in the 49er FX event at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
