The 50th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China took place on 1 October 1999. [2] [3] A military parade was held in Tiananmen Square in Beijing and various celebrations were conducted all over the country. China's paramount leader Jiang Zemin inspected the troops along Chang'an Avenue in Beijing. This parade was immediately followed by a civilian parade.
It was the first one to be held since 1984 since the 1989 parade celebrating the 40th anniversary was cancelled due to the Tiananmen Square protests. Known as the Chinese Army's Trans-Century Parade due to 1 October 1999 being months away from the turn of the 21st century, it was commanded by the Commander of Beijing Military Region Li Xinliang and inspected by then-Chairman of the Central Military Commission and General Secretary of the CCP Jiang Zemin. It was the first time that the sole Chinese leader (who served as party leader, head of state and Commander-in-Chief by this time) had inspected the parade. It was also the first time that the national flag was raised before the parade began. 42 divisions (formations) took part in this parade: 17 from the ground column and 25 from the mobile column.
China Central Television and Beijing Television was responsible for the live broadcast of the National Day celebrations military parade from 8:30 a.m. (CST) to noon, on CCTV-1, CCTV-4 and CCTV HDTV test channel
China National Radio provided live audio coverage throughout mainland China, and "Xinwen Lianbo" anchors Xing Zhibin and Luo Jing served as commentators
At 9:58 a.m., Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao, Wei Jianxing, Li Lanqing and other party and state leaders came and stood atop Tiananmen amidst the welcome music.
At 10 a.m., Jia Qinglin, the Beijing municipal Communist Party Secretary and the master of ceremonies for the event, announced the beginning of the "Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China". A 50-gun salute was fired, and 200 National Flag Guard of the Armed Police marched down from the Monument to the People's Heroes, passing the portrait of Sun Yat-sen and walked along the central axis to the flag-raising area. The Chinese People's Liberation Army Joint Military Band (中国人民解放军联合军乐团) composed of more than 1,100 people played the "National Anthem of the People's Republic of China", and the audience sang in unison. At 10:07 a.m. Jiang Zemin inspected the troops standing onto a Hongqi CA772TJ limousine with a license 申A 02156. drove out of Tiananmen Gate.
General Li Xinliang, chief commander of the military parade and commander of the Beijing Military Region, took a review car from the East Red Wall to the Jinshui Bridge, and went forward to report to President Jiang Zemin:
"Comrade Chairman, the troops under review are ready. Please review them!"
"Start!" President Jiang Zemin issued an order. Following an order, more than 1,000 military band members played the "Troops Review March of the PLA"
At 10:08 a.m. the review vehicle drove up to the parade line and drove slowly from west to east. Jiang Zemin reviewed the troops, made out of ground force, navy, air force and militia formations, accompanied by Li Xinliang.
After reviewing the troops, President Jiang Zemin returned to the Tiananmen Gate and delivered a speech.
At 10:36 a.m. Lt.Gen. Chen Xitao announced the start of the Military Parade.

Armored forces and artillery accounted for 70% of the parade while the airborne portion was increased to 10%.
After the military parade ended, mass pageant began. The mass pegeant consisted of three themes, namely "Founding of the Country and Entrepreneurship", "Reform and Glory", and "Century of Soaring". A total of more than 100,000 people and 91 floats participated in the parade.
A 1,100 piece band was present for the musical accompaniment to the parade. The bands were organized as follows:
More than 100,000 teenagers held bouquets and flipped cards in the square, transforming into a variety of characters and patterns.

The 2015 China Victory Day parade was a military parade held along Chang'an Avenue, Beijing, on 3 September 2015 to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day of World War II. The commemoration was the first high-profile military parade held to celebrate an occasion other than the National Day of the People's Republic of China. 12,000 troops of the People's Liberation Army participated in the parade, in addition to over 1,000 troops from 17 different countries, and about 850,000 "Citizen Guards" were mobilised to guard the city. Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping inspected the troops, Premier Li Keqiang was the master of ceremonies and General Song Puxuan was the chief commander of the parade.

The Beijing Garrison Honor Guard Battalion, officially the PLA Honour Guard, is a ceremonial honour guard and specialised unit of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). It is composed of representatives of the People's Liberation Army Ground Force, Navy, and Air Force. Male soldiers in the battalion must be at least 180 cm tall, while females must be at least 173 cm tall. This honor guard battalion, while reporting directly to the Central Military Commission, falls under the operational control of the Central Theater Command. During parades, the battalion is led by a color guard detail bearing the PLA flag, a tradition which began in 1981.
The People's Liberation Army Air Force Airborne Corps is a combined air force ground forces corps which consists of air assault infantry, airborne forces, and special forces under direct command of the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). It was reorganized and renamed from the 15th Airborne Corps in May 2017 and now comprises six airborne brigades and a special forces brigade. The PLAAF Airborne Corps is China's primary strategic airborne unit and part of the newly formed rapid reaction units (RRUs) of the Chinese military which is primarily designated for air assault, airborne, long-range penetration, and special warfare missions. The Central Military Band of People's Liberation Army of China is a military music unit made for state ceremonies carried out by the People's Liberation Army of China. For more than 70 years, the band has acted as the musical branch of the PLA. The musicians of the orchestra are required to play ceremonial music for visiting heads of state and government, as well as perform during national events such as the National Day of the People's Republic of China and PLA Day. The band is currently led by Colonel Commandant Zhang Haifeng, who has been in the band since 1988.

The People's Liberation Army Air Force Female Band is a Chinese female amateur military band that is part of the PLA Air Force. The band was established in 1996 as an 8-member marching band. Today, it currently is composed of 56 musicians and part of the PLAAF Communications Branch. Despite being a female oriented band, in recent years it has also included male soldiers in its ranks to try and make it more pan-PLAAF.
The 2017 PLA Day parade was a military parade at Zhurihe Training Base in Inner Mongolia, on 1 August 2017 to celebrate the 90th anniversary of founding of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and the Nanchang uprising that caused its founding. The parade was the first one to be held outside of Beijing since 1981 and the only one to date to only include military equipment and no marchpast. It also was the first organized event to be held on 1 August, which is PLA Day in China. Central Military Commission (CMC) Chairman and Party General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected the troops while CMC vice chairman Fan Changlong was the parade's master of ceremonies and General Han Weiguo of the Central Theater Command was parade commander. 12,000 troops participated in the parade dressed up in combat garb instead of the usual Type 07 full dress uniform. According to the Minister of National Defense, this was done to replicate troops in a "dust-covered battlefield atmosphere".
The National Day Parade, officially the National Day of the People's Republic of China Parade, is a civil-military parade event held at Tiananmen Square in Beijing, the capital of the People's Republic of China, on the National Day of the People's Republic of China on 1 October. The Air Force Command College (AFCC), MOE Code (院校代码):91023, is the highest academic institution of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF), with a corps deputy grade, and it is tasked with training the commanding officer corps for the force. It is based in Beijing, right next to the Kunming Lake and the Beijing Xijiao Airport. It is an intermediate command school for the training of mid-level and senior command officers, staff officers, and master's and doctoral students in military science for the PLA Air Force. It is also tasked with providing decision-making consultations to the head of the Air Force Party Committee.
