5 is a brand of sugar-free chewing gum that is manufactured by the Wrigley Company, marketed toward teenagers. [1] [2] The name "5" hints at the five human senses (with the ad slogan "Stimulate Your Senses" and "How It Feels to Chew Five Gum") and that it has 5 calories. [3]

5 gum was introduced in the United States in March 2007, in Canada in January 2008, in Russia, Europe and Australia in 2009, and in China, India, Italy, the Middle East, Thailand, and Malaysia in 2010. When introduced to new markets, 5 would be stylized and branded as "New 5 Gum". [4] [5] [6]

The first three flavors introduced were Peppermint, Spearmint, and Cinnamon; second came Tropical and Berry; and in 2009, Winter mint and Bubble. [7] In March 2010, two new flavors, both named "React" were introduced in the United States along with the slogan: "Everyone Experiences It Differently". [8] "React" comes in both mint and fruit flavors. It was released in Australia in March 2011. [9] 5 also offers a watermelon flavor called "Prism", a green apple flavor called "Vortex" and a sour tropical flavor called "Swerve". [10]

A limited edition flavor called "Mutant" was released in Australia as a promotion for X-Men: First Class in May 2011. It was discontinued and later re-released as "Cirrus". [11] Also, in June 2012, Wrigley released Cobalt and Rain micro-packs, bottle and mini bottle formats. The bottles contain pellet style gum instead of stick gum in the standard packs. [12] The bottle format is available in Canada as well. [13]

On 8 September 2020, 5 announced that it would be collaborating with Razer's gaming beverage brand "Respawn By Razer" to bring 3 new flavors of 5 targeted towards gamers, claiming to enhance focus while gaming. [14]

Nutrition

There are five calories in a piece of 5 gum. The gum contains aspartame (with phenylalanine), acesulfame-potassium, soy lecithin, sorbitol, mannitol and other sweeteners. [15]

Dubble Bubble is an American brand of fruit-flavored, usually pink-colored, bubble gum invented by Walter Diemer, an accountant at Philadelphia-based Fleer Chewing Gum Company in 1928. One of Diemer's hobbies was concocting recipes for chewing gum based on t he original Fleer ingredients. Though founder Frank H. Fleer had come up with his own bubble gum recipe under the name Blibber-Blubber in 1906, it was shelved due to its being too sticky and breaking apart too easily. Freedent is a brand of chewing gum manufactured by Wrigley's. Freedent was first introduced in the US and UK in 1975 and is marketed as the gum that "won't stick to most dental work ." Freedent comes in eight flavors: Winterfresh, Peppermint, Spearmint, Bubble Gum, Fruit, Strawberry, Eucalyptus, and Blueberry. It also comes in two package sizes: single packs containing 15 sticks of gum, and multi-packs containing 8 packs of 5 sticks each. Sugar-free versions of Freedent are also available in several countries, including France.

Airwaves is a brand of sugarfree chewing gum produced by the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company, and sold primarily in Europe and East Asia. The brand is marketed for its intense flavor similar to the effect one would get from the consumption of cough drops. This intensity of flavor is obtained by including Eucalyptus and Menthol in the candy coating of the tablets of gum.

Kiss a Little Longer was an advertising slogan used by the William Wrigley Jr. Corporation to market their gum products in the late 1970s.
