A16 [4] (provisional name) is an MTR station on the Tuen Ma line to be constructed elevated on the bank of Tuen Mun River at the current site of Tuen Mun Swimming Pool in Tuen Mun Area 16. The construction of the station is gazetted as part of the Tuen Mun South extension by the Hong Kong Government in January 2022. [2] The station is expected to open for service in 2030. [1]

Station layout

The station will be built with three levels, with station entrances at grade, concourse one level above ground, and platforms above the concourse. The station will have an island platform, and two siding tracks on each side of the main tracks. [5] [6]

History

South China Morning Post reported on June 5, 2018, that according to sources, the MTRC plans for an additional station between the Tuen Mun and Tuen Mun South stations, displacing the current Tuen Mun Swimming Pool, along with 8,000 residential flats in the area. [7]

In May 2019, Michael Tien, former chairman of the KCRC and a panel member of the Panel on Transport of LegCo, announced plans for an additional station near Tuen Mun Swimming Pool. Tien also mentioned the possibility of adopting a "Rail + Property" model, where MTRC would fund the line construction, and the Hong Kong Government would provide land for building housing estates as compensation. It is anticipated that this development would result in the construction of 6 to 7 thousand private housing flats and 13,000 public housing flats. [8]

The construction of the station was gazetted as part of the Tuen Mun South extension by the Hong Kong Government in January 2022. [2] The environmental impact assessment was approved in July 2022. [3]

The railway connected the urban area of Kowloon and the new towns of Yuen Long, Tin Shui Wai and Tuen Mun in the northwestern New Territories.

Hung Hom is a passenger railway station in Hung Hom, Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is an interchange station between the East Rail line and the Tuen Ma line domestic services of the MTR network, as well as the southern terminus of cross-border through-trains to mainland China which has been suspended since 4 February 2020. The station is one of four Hong Kong ports of entry on the MTR network; the others are Lo Wu, Lok Ma Chau, and West Kowloon. This station serves the southern terminus of the East Rail Line in early morning before the first northbound train from Admiralty arrives. As the station is located next to the Cross-Harbour Tunnel's northern portal, it is also served by many cross-harbour bus routes.

Hong Kong's rail network mainly comprises public transport trains operated by the MTR Corporation Limited (MTRC). The MTRC operates the metro network of the territory, the commuter rail network connecting the northeastern, northwestern and southwestern New Territories to the urban areas, and a light rail network in northwestern New Territories. The operations of the territory's two leading railway companies, MTRC and the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC), were merged in 2007 on grounds of economies of scale and cost effectiveness. The Hong Kong Government has an explicit stated transport policy of using railways as its transport backbone.

The Tuen Mun South extension is a proposed 2.4-kilometre (1.5 mi) extension of the MTR rapid transit network in Hong Kong. It extends the existing train service of Tuen Ma line to the tentatively named A16 station in Tuen Mun Area 16 and ultimately a new northern terminus, Tuen Mun South, near Tuen Mun Ferry Pier. The extension will extend southwards from the current northern terminus, Tuen Mun station. The journey time from Tuen Mun South to Tuen Mun is estimated to be approximately 5 minutes. The track is planned to run on a viaduct. So Tuen Mun Ferry Pier stop will be renamed as Tuen Mun South.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Tuen Mun South station</span> Future MTR station in the New Territories, Hong Kong

Tuen Mun South is the future northern terminus of MTR's Tuen Ma line. It is to be constructed elevated across Wu King Road and Wu Chui Road in Tuen Mun, Hong Kong. The construction of the station is gazetted as part of the Tuen Mun South extension by the Hong Kong Government in January 2022. The station is expected to open for service in 2030.
