They are known for being pioneers of the crossover success that rap music would have in the popular music mainstream.
Cool & Dre are a record production and songwriting duo from North Miami, Florida, consisting of Marcello "Cool" Antonio Valenzano and Andre "Dre" Christopher Lyon. The duo were first discovered by New York rapper Fat Joe and began their careers working in tandem to produce his albums Jealous Ones Still Envy (2001) and Loyalty (2002). Two years later, they produced the hit song "New York" by Ja Rule, and "Hate It or Love It" by the Game the following year, which peaked at numbers 27 and two on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively. Cool & Dre were later credited on the Billboard 200 number-one albums Tha Carter III (2008), Tha Carter IV (2011), and Tha Carter V (2018) by Lil Wayne, as well as the collaborative album, Everything Is Love (2018) by Jay-Z and Beyoncé, which won a Grammy Award.
Don't Be Cruel is the second studio album by American singer Bobby Brown. It was released in the United States on June 20, 1988, by MCA Records. MCA changed producers for this album and had Brown work with hit-making songwriting and production duo Babyface and L.A. Reid. Brown dedicated the album to his deceased best friend James "Jimbo" Flint who was stabbed to death when Brown was aged 11. Don't Be Cruel incorporates new jack swing, R&B, funk, dance and soul.

Brown & Proud is the debut studio album by Latin hip hop group A Lighter Shade of Brown from Riverside, California. It was released in 1990 through Pump Records with distribution via Quality Records. Recording sessions took place at Paramount Recording Studios, Trax Recording Studio and Image Recorders in Hollywood, and at Beach Recording Studios in Redondo Beach. Production was handled by Fabe Love, Jammin' James Carter, D.J. Romeo, D.J. Battlecat and Tony G. It features guest appearances from Chulo, Huggy Boy, Teardrop, King Ed and Shiro.

Layin' in the Cut is the third studio album by A Lighter Shade of Brown. It was released on July 26, 1994, for Mercury Records and was produced by Jammin' James Carter, DJ Romeo and Stoker. Layin' in the Cut would prove to be the duo's most successful on the Billboard charts, peaking at #54 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and #169 on the Billboard 200. Two singles also made it to the charts, "Hey DJ" peaked at #43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #18 on the Hot Rap Singles, while "If You Wanna Groove" featuring Aulsondro "Novelist" Hamilton peaked at #45 on the Hot Rap Singles. This was A Lighter Shade of Brown's last album to make it to the charts.
Redhead Kingpin and the F.B.I. was an American hip hop/new jack swing group best known for its debut single and highest-charting song, "Do the Right Thing" from its album A Shade of Red, which peaked at No. 13 on the UK Singles Chart in 1989. The song was featured on the soundtrack of Wes Craven's horror film The People Under the Stairs.
New Boyz were an American hip hop duo consisting of rappers Earl "Ben J" Benjamin and Dominic "Legacy" Thomas They debuted in the spring of 2009 with their viral hit "You're a Jerk" taken from their 2009 debut studio album Skinny Jeanz and a Mic. The song peaked in the top thirty of the Billboard Hot 100, and it was the first song to bring the jerkin' style to the national forefront. A second single, "Tie Me Down" featuring Ray J, was also successful and peaked in the top thirty in Early 2010. In May 2011, their second and final studio album, Too Cool to Care, was released. It includes the top 40 hits "Backseat", featuring The Cataracs and Dev, and "Better with the Lights Off" featuring Chris Brown. The New Boyz have also been featured on Hot Chelle Rae's song "I Like It Like That", which peaked at No. 28 on the Hot 100.
