"A Song for Chi" is an instrumental alternative metal song recorded by several high-profile rock and metal musicians to raise money for poet and Deftones bassist Chi Cheng, who was severely injured in a car crash in Santa Clara, California on November 4, 2008. [1] All profits from the song went directly to Cheng and his family for the purpose of paying for his medical care. [2] Cheng died in April 2013.

Recording

The project was initiated by fellow bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu of Korn in May 2009, [1] besides himself Arvizu revealed that former Army of Anyone and current Korn drummer Ray Luzier, Slipknot's Jim Root, Sevendust's Clint Lowery and Korn guitarist Brian Welch would also be recording for the project. [1] The project would also be the first collaboration between Welch and any of his former bandmates since his departure from the band in 2005. Recordings for the song continued to take place at various venues and studios throughout the world during Korn's Escape From the Studio Tour. [3] On June 8 Machine Head's Dave McClain recorded drums for the song on stage in Berlin before Machine Head opened for Korn. [4] On June 17 Sevendust's Morgan Rose and Clint Lowery recorded drums and guitars respectively in Paris. [5] At the Sonisphere Festival in the Netherlands former Ozzy Osbourne and current Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo recorded bass for the song. [6] Adam Dutkiewicz of Killswitch Engage tracked guitars for the song on June 24 in San Sebastian, Spain. [7] On June 28 Hatebreed guitarist Wayne Lozinak recorded for the song backstage at the Graspop Metal Meeting in Dessel, Belgium. [8] Former Korn guitarist Brian Welch and his former bandmate James Shaffer recorded guitars for the song on June 1 [9] and 6 [10] respectively. In addition to these recordings musicians such as Mike Wengren, Noah Bernardo and Sid Wilson also recorded for the song. [11] The music was produced by Fieldy along with StillWell's Q-Unique and mixed by Jim Monti. Life Is Peachy is the second studio album by American nu metal band Korn. It was released on October 15, 1996, through both Immortal Records and Epic Records. After the release of Korn's 1994 self-titled debut album, the band reunited with Ross Robinson to produce and went back to Indigo Ranch Studios to record. Life Is Peachy features such themes as drugs, social encounters, sex, betrayal, and revenge. The album has fourteen tracks, excluding the hidden track after "Kill You". Martin Riedl photographed its cover art, and its title is credited to Korn's bassist Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu. Life Is Peachy was Korn's first significant breakthrough, which came from constant touring after the debut album's release and building a fan base, thus fueling great expectations.

Chi Ling Dai Cheng was an American musician and poet, best known as the bassist and backing vocalist for the American alternative metal band Deftones. He joined the band in 1990, and stayed with them until his career ended in 2008, when he was involved in a serious automobile crash in Santa Clara, California. After the crash, he remained in a semi-comatose state before dying of cardiac arrest in April 2013. After Cheng's hospitalization, a friend of the band, Sergio Vega, became the band's full-time bassist until 2022, having previously filled in for Cheng.

Clint Lowery is an American musician, songwriter and producer, best known as the lead guitarist and backing vocalist of the rock band Sevendust. He has also played in Dark New Day and Still Rain, and served as the touring guitarist for Korn and Seether through most of 2007 and 2017, respectively. In 2008, he decided to work on new music as a solo artist, and the name of the project was titled Hello Demons Meet Skeletons. Lowery wrote and recorded a six-song EP while off the road with Sevendust, just for a week. He played every instrument on the CD, which was produced by his brother Corey Lowery. The EP, Chills, was released in October, followed by a tour at the same month. He would also later release two more EPs with HDMS. Also his fourth and last EP, Choices, was released in 2013.

New Tradition is the second album by American hard rock supergroup Dark New Day, released on February 28, 2012. It is their third release in six years after Black Porch and their second album since Twelve Year Silence. Originally due to be released in 2006 under the title of "Hail Mary", the band faced troubles due to their contract with Warner, forcing them to shelve the album altogether. In late 2011, the band decided to get back together and release the material through their new record company, Goomba Music.

"Black Is the Soul" is a song by American nu metal band Korn. It was their third single off of their twelfth studio album The Serenity of Suffering. It peaked at number 10 on the Billboard US Mainstream Rock Songs chart in November 2017.
