2023 T20 kit

The Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) is a professional Twenty20 franchise cricket team that competes in the International League T20, a men's Twenty20 league hosted by the Emirates Cricket Board. [2] The franchise is owned by the Knight Riders Group, a sporting subsidiary alliance between the Red Chillies Entertainment and the Mehta Group. [3] Their home ground is the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

History

In August 2022, the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) announced the establishment of the International League T20, a Twenty20 Cricket competition to be started in 2023. The teams for the competition, representing 6 different cities of United Arab Emirates, including Abu Dhabi, were put up on auction in UAE in September 2022. The Abu Dhabi franchise was purchased & revealed by Kolkata Knight Riders, part of Knight Riders Franchise. The team unveiled their logo and jersey in January 2023, through their social media handles.

Home ground

The Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi (with the two ends of the crease called the North End and the Pavilion End) is serving as the home ground of the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. It is operated by the Emirates Cricket Board and is the third-oldest cricket stadium in the country. It is also the second-largest stadium in the United Arab Emirates in terms of crowd capacity with the stadium having over 20,000 seats. In 2021, The stadium hosted some matches of the 2021 ICC Men's T20 World Cup as the tournament was shifted to UAE after the original hosts India were unable to host the tournament due to the outbreak of second-wave of COVID-19 among the whole country. The stadium also served as the home ground for the Kolkata Knight Riders during the 2020 and 2021 editions respectively.

The Dubai International Stadium, formerly known as the Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is mainly used for cricket and is one of the three main cricket stadiums in the country, the other two being Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah and Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. It has seating capacity for 25,000 spectators, but is expandable to accommodate 30,000 spectators. It is a part of the Dubai Sports City in Dubai. Cricket is a popular sport in the United Arab Emirates. UAE has participated in various competition by International Cricket Council (ICC) and is an associate member of the ICC. The country will also host few games for UAE cricket team and Afghanistan cricket team at Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium, Sharjah in 2011–13 ICC Intercontinental Cup and 2011–13 ICC Intercontinental Cup One-Day. The 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier is also scheduled in the United Arab Emirates at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai, ICC Global Cricket Academy, Dubai and Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah. Formerly Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium in Dubai and Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium in Sharjah were used by Pakistan for their neutral matches due to security concerns after the 2009 attack on the Sri Lanka national cricket team, but international cricket later returned to Pakistan.

The 2014 Indian Premier League season was the seventh season of the Indian Premier League, a professional Twenty20 cricket league established by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in 2007. The tournament featured eight teams, one fewer than in 2013 after the withdrawal of the Pune Warriors India, and was held from 16 April 2014 to 1 June 2014. The opening ceremony was held in the UAE on 15 April 2014. Kolkata Knight Riders won the tournament, defeating Kings XI Punjab by 3 wickets with Manish Pandey declared the man of the match in the final. The average attendance for the tournament was 31,751.

The Caribbean Premier League is an annual Twenty20 cricket tournament held in the Caribbean. It was founded by Cricket West Indies in 2013 to replace the Caribbean Twenty20 as the premier Twenty20 competition in the Caribbean. It is currently sponsored by Republic Bank Limited and consequently officially named the Republic Bank CPL. The inaugural tournament was won by the Jamaica Tallawahs who defeated the Guyana Amazon Warriors in the final.

The Abu Dhabi T20 Trophy was a 20-over cricket franchise tournament held in the United Arab Emirates. It took place between 4 and 6 October 2018 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. Six franchise teams took part in the first edition. The International Cricket Council (ICC) sanctioned the competition in June 2018.

The 2023 International League T20, also known as the DP World ILT20 2023 for sponsorship reasons, was the inaugural season of the International League T20 (ILT20), a professional Twenty20 cricket league in the United Arab Emirates, organised by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB). In June 2022, it was confirmed that the season would be played in January and February 2023. The fixtures were announced on 29 November with the league set to run from January 13 to February 12.

It was one of the six teams that were announced for the inaugural season of the tournament. The 2024 International League T20 was the second season of the International League T20, a professional Twenty20 cricket league in the United Arab Emirates, organised by the Emirates Cricket Board. The tournament was played from 19 January 2024 and the final was held on 17 February 2024. Gulf Giants were the defending champions. The matches were granted List A status by the ICC for fielding less domestic players as stipulated.

The 2023 edition is the inaugural season for the International League T20 franchise Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. They are one of the six teams competing in the 2023 International League T20.

The 2024 edition is the second season for the International League T20 franchise Abu Dhabi Knight Riders. They are one of the six teams competing in the 2024 International League T20.
