The Trinbago Knight Riders are a women's cricket team that compete in the Women's Caribbean Premier League and The 6ixty, representing Trinidad and Tobago. The formation of the team was announced in March 2022, aligned with the equivalent men's team, playing their first match in August 2022. The franchise is owned by the Knight Riders Group, a sporting subsidiary alliance between the Red Chillies Entertainment and the Mehta Group, which also owns the Trinbago Knight Riders (Men's) team in the Caribbean Premier League. The team is captained by Deandra Dottin. The side won the inaugural Women's Caribbean Premier League, beating Barbados Royals in the final.

History

On 14 March 2022, Cricket West Indies announced their intention to hold the first Women's Caribbean Premier League, to run alongside the men's tournament, which began in 2013. Trinbago Knight Riders were one of three teams announced to be taking part in the tournament, aligned with one of the men's teams. [2] The team's squad was announced on 16 June 2022, with Deandra Dottin announced as captain of the team. The inaugural Women's Caribbean Premier League is scheduled to begin on 31 August 2022. [3]

On 22 June 2022, it was announced that a T10 tournament would precede the Women's CPL, taking place from 24 to 28 August, known as The 6ixty and involving the three teams competing in the main tournament. [4] The side topped the initial group stage in the inaugural edition of The 6ixty, but lost to Barbados Royals in the final by 15 runs. [5] In the inaugural Women's Caribbean Premier League, the side topped the initial group stage before beating Barbados Royals in the final by 10 runs to win the competition. [6] The side finished bottom of the group in the 2023 Women's Caribbean Premier League. [7]

Deandra Jalisa Shakira Dottin is a Barbadian cricketer and former track and field athlete. A right-handed batter and right-arm fast bowler, Dottin made her debut for the West Indies women's cricket team in June 2008. She plays as a hard-hitting lower-order batter, and scored her first century in a Women's Twenty20 International in 2010. She played in her 100th Women's One Day International (WODI) match, when the West Indies played India in the group stage of the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup, on 29 June 2017. The 2020 Caribbean Premier League (CPLT20) or for sponsorship reasons, Hero CPL 2020 was the eighth season of the Caribbean Premier League, the domestic Twenty20 cricket league played in the West Indies. All matches were played in Trinidad and Tobago. The tournament started on 18 August and ended on 10 September 2020. On 10 July 2020, the local government gave its approval for the tournament to go ahead, with all the matches taking place at two venues behind closed doors. The full schedule for the tournament was confirmed on 27 July 2020. On 6 August 2020, an official press release stated that all players, officials and administrators involved in the league had tested negative on arrival ahead of a two weeks quarantine period.

The 2021 Caribbean Premier League (CPLT20) or for sponsorship reasons, Hero CPL 2021 was the ninth season of the Caribbean Premier League, the domestic Twenty20 cricket league that was played in the West Indies. The tournament was held from 26 August to 15 September 2021, with all the matches took placed in Saint Kitts and Nevis. A players' draft was held on 28 May 2021. On 14 July 2021, Cricket West Indies confirmed the fixtures for the tournament. The Trinbago Knight Riders were the defending champions.

The tournament was held from 31 August, with the final played on 30 September 2022. A women's tournament was also held concurrent with the men's tournament. Saint Kitts and Nevis was named as one of the hosts, with Guyana hosting the playoffs. St Kitts & Nevis Patriots were the defending champions. The 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPLT20) or for sponsorship reasons, Republic Bank CPL 2024 will be the twelfth season of the Caribbean Premier League, the domestic Twenty20 cricket league that is played in the West Indies. The tournament will be played from 29 August with final scheduled to be held on 6 October 2024. The matches are planned to be played across six countries in the Caribbean: Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Trinidad and Tobago. Guyana Amazon Warriors are the defending champions.
