The West Indies Academy, formerly known as West Indies Emerging Team is a cricket team, that plays first-class and List A cricket in the West Indian domestic circuit. The team has no geographical base, rather is made up of the emerging players and top youth performers in the Caribbean. [1] They are currently captained by Nyeem Young, [2] and coached by Andre Coley. [3]

The team was formed in October 2019 to compete in the Super50 Cup for the first time. [4] The first recorded match by the team was played on 7 November 2019, against Guyana in the 2019–20 Regional Super50. [5] In December 2022, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced that the West Indies Academy would be one of the three teams to take part in the inaugural 2023 Headley Weekes Tri-Series. [6] The team made their first-class debut on 19 April 2023, [7] which they won by seven wickets against Team Headley. [8] West Indies Academy scheduled to tour Ireland for the first time in June 2024 to play three List A and two First-class games against Emerging Ireland. [9]

The Regional Four Day Competition, formerly known as the Shell Shield, Red Stripe, Busta and Carib Beer Cup, is the West Indies's first-class cricket competition that's run by Cricket West Indies. In the 2013–2014 season the winner of the tournament was awarded the WICB President's Trophy while the winners of the knockout competition were awarded the George Headley/Everton Weekes trophy. In a few previous seasons the winners of the tournament were awarded the Headley/Weekes trophy. On from the 2016–17 season, the Competition was sponsored by Digicel and was known as the Digicel Four Day Championship. Since 2019–20, the competition has been renamed as the West Indies Championship.

The Super50 Cup, currently named the CG Insurance Super50 Cup for sponsorship purposes is the domestic one-day cricket competition in the West Indies. It was previously known as the KFC Cup until the fast food chain pulled out of sponsorship in 2008 and the WICB Cup until 2011. Afterwards it was known the Regional Super50 until 2014 when NAGICO Insurance became the title sponsor and it became the NAGICO Regional Super50 until 2021. In recent years it has been run in a condensed format with the group stage taking place over approximately two to three weeks, immediately followed by the knock-out stages. In the sport of cricket, the West Indies is a sporting confederation of fifteen mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries and territories, many of which historically formed the British West Indies. It consists of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States Virgin Islands. The governing body for the confederation is Cricket West Indies (CWI), which is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC); beneath the CWI are six territorial governing bodies covering different nations and regions of the confederation. The CWI organises the West Indies cricket team, which represents the confederation in international cricket, as well as administering domestic cricket competitions across the West Indies.

The 2015–16 NAGICO Super50 was the 42nd edition of the Regional Super50, the domestic limited-overs cricket competition for the countries of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). The tournament was co-hosted by Saint Kitts and Trinidad and Tobago, with the final held at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain.

Yannic Cariah is a Trinidadian cricketer who has played for Trinidad and Tobago in West Indian domestic cricket, as well as representing the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). He has played for the West Indies cricket team since 2022.

The 2019–20 Regional Super50 was the 46th edition of the Regional Super50, the domestic limited-overs cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI). The tournament started on 6 November 2019, with the final taking place on 1 December 2019. The tournament featured the six regular teams of West Indian domestic cricket, the Combined Campuses and Colleges team and the West Indies Emerging Team. The national teams of the United States and Canada also took part. Combined Campuses and Colleges were the defending champions.

The 2020–21 Super50 Cup was the 47th edition of the Super50 Cup, the domestic limited-overs cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI). The tournament took place in February 2021 in Antigua and Barbuda. Six teams competed in the tournament – Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, the Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Windward Islands. The West Indies Emerging Team won the previous edition of the competition.

The 2022–23 West Indies Championship was the 55th edition of the Regional Four Day Competition, the domestic first-class cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI). It began from 1 February and finished on 1 April 2023. Six teams contested the tournament – Barbados Pride, Guyana Harpy Eagles, Jamaica Scorpions, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, and the Windward Islands Volcanoes. The series was followed by the Headley Weekes Tri-Series. The first two rounds of fixtures took place in February 2022, followed by a break until 15 March 2022. Barbados were the defending champions.

Ramon Romario Simmonds is a Barbadian cricketer, who is a left-arm fast medium bowler. He plays for Barbados cricket team in West Indian domestic cricket, having previously represented the West Indies under-19 cricket team.

2023 Headley Weekes Tri-Series is the inaugural season of the Headley Weekes Tri-Series, a domestic first-class cricket competition organized by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and named in honour of West Indian cricketers George Headley and Everton Weekes. It took place from 19 April to 6 May 2023. It is a tri-series between Team Headley, Team Weekes and West Indies Academy, with the matches being played as first-class fixtures. Team Headley and Team Weekes were composed of players who were the leading performers in the 2022–23 West Indies Championship and those deemed to be on the fringe of the Test team; with CWI and the selectors aiming to provide further first-class cricketing opportunities for the benefit of these two sets of players. All three matches were played at Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua. The tournament was used as preparation ahead of West Indies A's tour to Bangladesh and Test series against India at home.

The 2023–24 Super50 Cup was the 49th edition of the Super50 Cup, the domestic limited-overs cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI). The tournament was played from 17 October to 11 November 2023 in Trinidad and Tobago.
