The West Indies Academy, formerly known as West Indies Emerging Team is a cricket team, that plays first-class and List A cricket in the West Indian domestic circuit. The team has no geographical base, rather is made up of the emerging players and top youth performers in the Caribbean. [1] They are currently captained by Nyeem Young, [2] and coached by Andre Coley. [3]

The team was formed in October 2019 to compete in the Super50 Cup for the first time. [4] The first recorded match by the team was played on 7 November 2019, against Guyana in the 2019–20 Regional Super50. [5] In December 2022, the Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced that the West Indies Academy would be one of the three teams to take part in the inaugural 2023 Headley Weekes Tri-Series. [6] The team made their first-class debut on 19 April 2023, [7] which they won by seven wickets against Team Headley. [8]

The Regional Four Day Competition, formerly known as the Shell Shield, Red Stripe, Busta and Carib Beer Cup, is the West Indies's first-class cricket competition that's run by Cricket West Indies. In the 2013–2014 season the winner of the tournament was awarded the WICB President's Trophy while the winners of the knockout competition were awarded the George Headley/Everton Weekes trophy. In a few previous seasons the winners of the tournament were awarded the Headley/Weekes trophy. In the sport of cricket, the West Indies is a sporting confederation of fifteen mainly English-speaking Caribbean countries and territories, many of which historically formed the British West Indies. It consists of Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, the British Virgin Islands, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States Virgin Islands. The governing body for the confederation is Cricket West Indies (CWI), which is a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC); beneath the CWI are six territorial governing bodies covering different nations and regions of the confederation. The CWI organises the West Indies cricket team, which represents the confederation in international cricket, as well as administering domestic cricket competitions across the West Indies.

Raymon Anton Reifer is a Barbadian cricketer. Reifer is a left-handed batsman who bowls left-arm medium-fast. He was born in Saint Lucy, Barbados. He made his international debut for the West Indies cricket team in December 2017.

Gudakesh Motie is a Guyanese cricketer who plays for Guyana in West Indian domestic cricket. He is a left-arm orthodox bowler. He made his international debut for the West Indies cricket team in December 2021.

The 2015–16 NAGICO Super50 was the 42nd edition of the Regional Super50, the domestic limited-overs cricket competition for the countries of the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB). The tournament was co-hosted by Saint Kitts and Trinidad and Tobago, with the final held at Queen's Park Oval, Port of Spain.

Rovman Powell is a Jamaican cricketer who plays for the West Indies cricket team and current captain in T20I format. In December 2018, he captained the West Indies for the first time in a One Day International (ODI) match against Bangladesh. Domestically, he has played for Jamaica, the Combined Campuses and Colleges, and the Jamaica Tallawahs.

The 2019–20 Regional Super50 was the 46th edition of the Regional Super50, the domestic limited-overs cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI). The tournament started on 6 November 2019, with the final taking place on 1 December 2019. The tournament featured the six regular teams of West Indian domestic cricket, the Combined Campuses and Colleges team and the West Indies Emerging Team. The national teams of the United States and Canada also took part. Combined Campuses and Colleges were the defending champions.

The 2020–21 Super50 Cup was the 47th edition of the Super50 Cup, the domestic limited-overs cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI). The tournament took place in February 2021 in Antigua and Barbuda. Six teams competed in the tournament – Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, the Leeward Islands, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Windward Islands. The West Indies Emerging Team won the previous edition of the competition.

Nyeem Young is a West Indian cricketer. Young was named in the West Indies' squads for the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup and the 2020 Under-19 Cricket World Cup. At the 2020 tournament, in the Group B match against England, Young became the first cricketer for the West Indies to score a fifty and take a five wicket haul in the same U19 match. For his performance, he was named the man of the match.

The 2022–23 West Indies Championship was the 55th edition of the Regional Four Day Competition, the domestic first-class cricket competition for the countries of the Cricket West Indies (CWI). It began from 1 February and finished on 1 April 2023. Six teams contested the tournament – Barbados Pride, Guyana Harpy Eagles, Jamaica Scorpions, the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, Trinidad and Tobago Red Force, and the Windward Islands Volcanoes. The series was followed by the Headley–Weekes Trophy. The first two rounds of fixtures took place in February 2022, followed by a break until 15 March 2022. Barbados were the defending champions.

2023 Headley Weekes Tri-Series is the inaugural season of the Headley Weekes Tri-Series, a domestic first-class cricket competition organized by Cricket West Indies (CWI) and named in honour of West Indian cricketers George Headley and Everton Weekes. It took place from 19 April to 6 May 2023. It is a tri-series between Team Headley, Team Weekes and West Indies Academy, with the matches being played as first-class fixtures. All three matches were played at Coolidge Cricket Ground, Antigua. The tournament was used as preparation ahead of West Indies A's tour to Bangladesh and Test series against India at home.
