African Leadership University (ALU) is a network of tertiary institutions operating in Mauritius and Rwanda, offering bachelor's degree programs. [1]
ALU's inaugural campus, known as the African Leadership College, was established in September 2015 in Mauritius. Subsequently, in September 2017, ALU launched its second campus in Kigali, Rwanda.
In 2008, Fred Swaniker, an African leadership development expert and Stanford Business School-educated social entrepreneur, founded ALU's sister organization, the African Leadership Academy, a secondary institution. In 2015, Swaniker expanded his efforts further by establishing an institution of higher learning, the African Leadership University, dedicated to teaching leadership skills. [2] In 2015, ALU opened its doors to more than 180 students from across Africa on its main campus in Mauritius. [3] In 2019, ALU made it to Fast Company's list of the world's 50 most innovative companies. [4]
ALC's main campus is located in Pamplemousses, the northern region of Mauritius. ALC Mauritius is a residential campus. The campus opened in October 2015 with 173 students in the inaugural class of 2015. In 2018, the number of students was over 300. [5] ALC offers undergraduate degree programs through its founding academic partner, Glasgow Caledonian University. ALC offers four different degrees.
ALU Rwanda is located in Kigali, Rwanda. The institution holds accreditation from the Higher Education Council of Rwanda. The undergraduate campus opened in September 2017 with 270 students, while the African Leadership School of Business started its blended Master of Business Administration program in September 2016. [6] ALU Rwanda expanded to Kigali's new Innovation City, where a permanent campus was completed in 2020. [7] ALU Rwanda is a non-residential campus.

Founded at Lunken Field in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1926, its main campuses are located in Daytona Beach, Florida, and Prescott, Arizona. It is the largest accredited university system specializing in aviation and aerospace. It has numerous online programs and academic programs offered at satellite locations.
Champlain College is a private college in Burlington, Vermont, United States. Founded in 1878, Champlain offers on-campus undergraduate and online undergraduate courses through Champlain College Online, along with online certificate and degree programs and master's degree programs, in over 80 subject areas. Champlain enrolls 3,060 undergraduate students on its Burlington campus from 40 states and 18 countries.
The Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College is the graduate business school of Dartmouth College, a private Ivy League research university in Hanover, New Hampshire. The school only offers a Master of Business Administration degree program.

Mary Baldwin University is a private university in Staunton, Virginia. It was founded in 1842 as Augusta Female Seminary. Today, Mary Baldwin University is home to the Mary Baldwin College for Women, a residential college and women's college with a focus on liberal arts and leadership, as well as co-educational residential college for undergraduate programs within its University College structure. MBU also offers co-educational graduate degrees as well as undergraduate degree and certificate programs for working professionals and non-traditional students.
The University of Minnesota Rochester (UMR) is a public college in Rochester, Minnesota. It is part of the University of Minnesota system and focuses primarily on general health sciences. It was formally established by an act of the state legislature in December 2006. UMR currently offers two bachelor's degrees in the health sciences, Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and Bachelor of Science in Health Professions.
Education in Rwanda has undergone considerable changes throughout Rwanda's recent history, and has faced major disruptions due to periods of conflict. Education was divided by gender whereby women and men had a different education relevant to their responsibilities in day-to-day life. Women were mostly taught housekeeping while men were mainly taught how to hunt, raise animals, and fish. This is because Rwanda was a community-based society where every member had a specific contribution to the overall development of the community. Older family members like grandparents usually took on the role of educators.

Its current faculty numbers 93, its undergraduate and graduate enrollment is 1500 students. It is known as the first American-style university in Sub-Saharan Africa. Kepler is a nonprofit higher education program that operates a university campus in Kigali, Rwanda. It is one of the first programs worldwide to integrate massive open online courses (MOOCs), flip teaching, and other education technology practices into a blended learning curriculum, with the goal of lowering the cost of higher education without a reduction in academic quality or outcomes. All graduates of the program receive an accredited U.S. degree through the competency-based College for America at Southern New Hampshire University.

University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) is a health sciences university in Rwanda. An initiative of Partners In Health, UGHE is a private, not-for-profit, accredited institution.
University of Kigali (UoK) is a fully accredited and chartered university by the Government of Rwanda. UoK started its operations in October 2013.
The International University of Grand-Bassam (IUGB) is an independent and nonprofit institution of higher education located in Grand-Bassam, Côte d'Ivoire. In cooperation with Georgia State University (GSU) in Atlanta, Georgia, and the government of Côte d'Ivoire, IUGB opened in January 2005 and was formally established as an accredited institution of higher education in May 2007. Its main objective is to provide an American-style curriculum to students from Sub-Saharan Africa. It is the first university in French-speaking Côte d'Ivoire that uses English as the primary language of instruction.
