Contents

The song exceeded more than 20 million views on YouTube and Instagram and various other social media platforms. [4] [5]

Background

The song is about Chola dynasty princess Kundavai Pirāttiyār who is played by Trisha yearning and expressing her love and romantic emotions for commander of the Chola Army Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan played by Karthi as she waits for his return from Sri Lanka and returning to Thanjavur. Reception

Critical reception

"When I heard the song for the first time in the studio, the melody felt like a river flowing and trickling through nature. The magic and the spirit of the song were already woven into the composition and there is a sense of regalia in the melody, the arrangement, the orchestration, the metering of the words and every single element. And approaching the song knowing that it was from the POV of Kundhavai, a Chola princess, certainly influenced the approach and rendition."

The song received an overwhelming response from viewers and fans. [11]

Akhila Menon from Pinkvilla stated, "The 'Aga Naga' song, which reportedly features the poetic romance of Chola princess Kundavai and warrior prince Vallavaraiyan Vanthiyathevan, is penned by Ilango Krishnan, and sung by Shakthisree Gopalan. In the lyrical video, Karthi and Trisha Krishnan's characters are seen having a magical moment, where they realise their love for each other. The stunningly designed lyrical video gives a glimpse of the much-loved onscreen pair's magical chemistry, through stunning sketches." [12]

Members from "Only Kollywood" wrote, "AR Rahman delivers just the beautiful melody that you expect from him, and this is not a song that sounds good in the 30 seconds that featured in the first part. Shaktisree Gopalan’s pronunciation is on point, and there are so many nice bits in the lyrics that deserve praise. A winner from Rahman, first up!". [13]

On social media actress Trisha posted requesting fans of the song to participate in a challenge to create an own version of the song in their own music and taste. [14]
