A. R. Rahman is an Indian composer, singer and songwriter. Described by Time as one of the most popular composers, [1] he has provided musical scores predominantly for Tamil and Hindi films apart from a few films in other regional film industries of India and international productions. Rahman started his career by composing musical scores for documentaries, advertisements and Television channels. He made his debut as a film composer through Roja after being approached by its director Mani Ratnam. The soundtrack became popular upon release, which led to him winning the National Film Award for Best Music Direction at the 40th National Film Awards, the first time for a debutant. [lower-alpha 1] As of 2018, Rahman has garnered 6 National Film Awards, 15 Filmfare Awards and 17 Filmfare Awards South, a record for an Indian composer.

Anandan "Drums" Sivamani is an Indian percussionist. He plays many instruments including drums, octoban, darbuka, udukai, ghatam and kanjira. It marks the Hindi film debut of Rao Hydari. The number 6 refers to the Postal Index Number (PIN) of the Chandni Chowk area of Old Delhi, a shortened form of 110006. It is Mehra's third film after Aks (2001) and Rang De Basanti (2006). The film's soundtrack, composed by A. R. Rahman, was a commercial success and received positive reviews from music critics upon release.

<i>Slumdog Millionaire: Music from the Motion Picture</i> 2008 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

Slumdog Millionaire: Music from the Motion Picture is the soundtrack album of the British drama film of the same name, directed by Danny Boyle. The original score and songs were composed by A. R. Rahman, who planned the score in two months and completed it in 20 days, a far shorter time period than usual.

"Jai Ho" is a song composed by A. R. Rahman for the 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire. When Danny Boyle, the director of Slumdog Millionaire, approached Rahman to compose its soundtrack, he included the song. "Jai Ho" accompanies a choreographed dance sequence at the end credits of the film. Indian singer Tanvi Shah wrote and provided vocals for an English section of the song. "Jai Ho" is a phrase which can be roughly translated as "Let [the] victory prevail", "Let there be victory", or "May there always be victory".

<i>Delhi-6</i> (soundtrack) 2009 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

Delhi-6 is the soundtrack album to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's 2009 film of the same name. A. R. Rahman scored the film, collaborating a second time with Mehra after Rang De Basanti, and Prasoon Joshi penned the lyrics. The music was released on 14 January 2009 at the Indian Idol 4 competition.

<i>Bombay</i> (soundtrack) 1994 soundtrack album by A. R. Rahman

Bombay is the soundtrack to the 1995 Indian film of the same name, with eight tracks composed by A. R. Rahman. The film was directed by Mani Ratnam, and stars Arvind Swamy and Manisha Koirala, while the soundtrack album was released on 24 December 1994 by Pyramid. The Indian film was originally a Tamil film dubbed into Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam. The soundtrack was thus released in multiple languages. The lyrics for the Tamil version were written by Vairamuthu, except for the song "Halla Gulla", which was written by Vaali. The lyrics for the Hindi and Telugu versions were written by Mehboob and Veturi, respectively.
