Alex Monette Consani (born July 23, 2003) is an American model and influencer. She started modeling in 2015 and became the world's youngest transgender model at the time at age 12. After signing with IMG Models in 2019, and started using TikTok in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic and became popular online for comedic videos, earning over three million followers by 2024. In 2024, Consani was the first transgender model to win the Fashion Award for Model of the Year and to walk for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show along with Valentina Sampaio.

Life and career

Alex Monette Consani [4] was born on July 23, 2003, [5] in Petaluma, California. Her mother works in water conservation while her father works with Guide Dogs for the Blind. [6] She is transgender and began wearing feminine clothing at age four before deciding on the name Alex at age eight and undergoing hormone replacement therapy during puberty. [7] [8] She started modeling in early 2015 after her mother found an advertisement on Facebook for Slay Model Management, a Los Angeles-based modeling agency made up entirely of transgender models. [9] [10] [11] She became, at the time, the youngest transgender model in the world at age 12. [12] In 2016, a profile on her in Cosmopolitan Germany went viral online. [9] She appeared in a photoshoot with Dominique Jackson at age 13. [13]

Consani signed with IMG Models in August 2019 at age 16 and moved to New York City at age 18. [6] [14] She began posting absurdist [9] [15] Gen Z-focused comedic videos on TikTok in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic under the username captincroook, also using the moniker Miss Mawma, and gained more than 700,000 followers by 2022. [10] [16] [17] In 2021, she graduated from Petaluma High School and began attending Pace University with the help of Petaluma Educational Foundation, receiving an Alphabet Soup Thrift Store Scholarship and a MacIlvain Family Scholarship; [18] [19] [20] also that year, she made her runway debut in New York City for Tom Ford. [6] [14] She was included on GLAAD's 20 Under 20 list, which honors "outstanding young LGBTQ changemakers", for 2022, and walked in runways for Versace and Alexander McQueen during Fall/Winter 2022. [13] By 2023, she had more than 1.4 million followers on the platform. [21]

Vogue named her one of the standout models of Spring/Summer 2023, during which she walked in runways for Boss by Hugo Boss, Burberry, Chloé, Roberto Cavalli, and Coperni. [17] She was featured in Victoria's Secret's reimagining of their Fashion Show, "The Tour '23," which returned to runway format in October 2024 after a 5-year hiatus. [11] She was the face of Jean Paul Gaultier's collaborative collection with London-based brand Knwls, which was released in September 2023. [22] Consani was the exclusive model for Conner Ives' Spring/Summer 2024 collection in collaboration with Depop, "Late Capitalism". [23] By early 2024, Consani had over two million followers and over 150 million likes across her videos on TikTok. [6] [15] She appeared in the music videos for the JT song "Okay" and for the Charli XCX song "360" in April and May 2024, respectively. [24] [25] She was nominated for the Fashion Award for Model of the Year in 2024, making her the first openly transgender woman to be nominated for the award. [26] [27] By then, she had over three million followers on TikTok. [28]

On October 15, 2024, Consani and Valentina Sampaio became the first transgender models to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. [29] [30]

Public image

Alyssa Morin of E! News called Consani "fashion's new it girl" in February 2023, while Bustle and PinkNews both described her as "the 'It Girl' of 2024". [34] [15] CR Fashion Book 's Vienna Vernose called her bleached hair and "fairy-like" features "distinctive" and called her runway walk "serious and powerful". [11] L'Officiel 's Grace Clarke called Consani "easily one of the biggest models" of 2024 and "one of the most popular transgender models in the industry". [35]

In October 2023, she was included on the Forbes Top Creators Fashion 50 list, where she had the highest engagement rate on the list at 21.5% and was described as having "signature bleached hair and brows". [36] i-D stated in 2023 that she was "as well known for her harebrained subway dances ... and goofy disposition [on TikTok] as she is for her turns on the Alexander McQueen and Versace runways". [21] Brock Colyar of The Cut wrote in 2024 that her TikTok videos, which "involve her being very loud and sort of annoying in very public spaces", were "constantly going viral". [6]

In December 2024, Consani was named in Forbes' list of 30 Under 30 in the "Art & Style" category. [37]

The accounts promote hate speech and transphobia, and spread false claims, especially relating to medical care of transgender children. The Twitter account, also known by the handle @LibsofTikTok, has over 3.5 million followers as of September 2024 and has become influential among American conservatives and the political right. Libs of TikTok's social-media accounts have received several temporary suspensions and a permanent suspension from TikTok.

She gained a higher profile on social media platforms after her interview with U.S. president Joe Biden at the White House, during which they spoke about transgender rights. After Bud Light sent a beer can to Mulvaney for an Instagram promotion in 2023, American conservatives led a boycott of the brand.

Avery Jae Clementine, known professionally as AJ Clementine, is a Filipino-Australian model, actress, social media content creator, transgender activist, and writer. She is the first transgender person to model for the Australian clothing manufacturer Bonds, and made her runway debut in 2021 at Melbourne Fashion Week. In 2022, she authored the memoir Girl, Transcending: Becoming the woman I was born to be.

Emira D'Spain is an Emirati-born American model, social media influencer and former beauty director. In 2022, she became the first Black transgender woman to model for Victoria's Secret. She has also been a cover girl for Glamour and was featured in Nylon. D'Spain has modeled for Fenty Beauty, UGG, Anastasia Beverly Hills, and NARS Cosmetics. She worked as the beauty director for Paper prior to the magazine's folding in 2023. D'Spain is a beauty content creator on TikTok, where she has over one million followers. On TikTok, she posts Get Ready With Me Videos, which have received over 85 million views.

Gabriella Leigh Bechtel, known professionally as Gabbriette, is an American model and musician. She first gained prominence as the lead vocalist and songwriter of the punk rock band Nasty Cherry before coming to wider recognition as a model.

Bel Priestley is an English actress and internet personality. She began her career on the social media platforms YouTube and TikTok, where she documented her gender transition after coming out as a transgender woman. By 2023, she amassed over one million followers on TikTok. Priestly joined the cast of the second season of the British coming-of-age romantic comedy drama television series Heartstopper as the character Naomi Russell. In 2023, she appeared on the covers of Brick Magazine and Attitude.

Britney Manson is a Russian-Estonian model, singer, and social media personality. She started her TikTok account in 2017 and became known for her modeling videos in 2019. She has since been signed to Elite Model Management for modeling.

Eden Estrada, known professionally as Eden The Doll, is a Mexican-American model and social media influencer. She has over two million followers on TikTok and large followings on Instagram, YouTube, and OnlyFans. Estrada, who is a transgender woman, documented her gender transition on YouTube. She has been featured in Vogue and is a Playboy model.

Dress to Impress is a multiplayer dress-up video game developed for the game platform Roblox created by the Dress to Impress Group. It was released in October 2023. By mid-2024, the game had become a viral phenomenon online even with non-Roblox players. As one of Roblox's most popular experiences, its rise to fame was partially due to popular video game livestreamers and a collaboration with Charli XCX's album Brat (2024), which included a substantial temporary update to the game.
