The New Mexico Lobos are the athletic teams that represent the University of New Mexico, located in Albuquerque. The university participates in the NCAA Division I in the Mountain West Conference (MW) since 1999, after leaving the Western Athletic Conference. The university's athletic program fields teams in 16 varsity sports.
Sally Jepkosgei Kipyego is a Kenyan-born American long- and middle-distance runner. She was the silver medalist in the 10,000 metres at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and the silver medalist in the same race at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. She has a personal record of 30:38.35 minutes for that event and her 5000 metres best of 14:30.42 minutes makes her the second fastest Kenyan woman for the distance.

The NCAA Men's Division III Cross Country Championship is an annual cross country meet to decide the team and individual national champions of men's NCAA Division III intercollegiate cross country running in the United States. It has been held every fall, usually in November, since the NCAA split into its current three-division format in 1973.
The NCAA Women's Division II Cross Country Championship is an annual cross country meet to decide the team and individual national champions of women's intercollegiate cross country running in the United States. It has been held every November since the NCAA began sponsoring women's sports in 1981. It is usually held at the same location as the NCAA Men's Division II Cross Country Championship.
The women's cross-country team at the University of New Mexico, known as the New Mexico Lobos, won the NCAA championship in 2015 and 2017. Also in 2017, Lobo Ednah Kurgat won the individual title with a record-setting time of 19:19.42. The team placed second nationally in 2018.
Grant Fisher is a Canadian-born American professional long distance runner with the Bowerman Track Club. He holds the American outdoor record in the 10000m and the indoor record in the 5000m. As a high-schooler, he was named Gatorade Player of the Year for cross country for the 2013–2014 and 2014–2015 seasons. He committed to Stanford University on November 16, 2014. On June 4, 2015, he became the seventh American high school student to run a mile under four minutes. Fisher represented the United States at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Athletics in the 1500-meter race.

Colleen Quigley is an American middle-distance runner from St. Louis, Missouri. She finished 12th in the 3000 metres steeplechase event at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics in Beijing, China and 8th in the 3000 metres steeplechase at the 2016 Summer Olympics.
Kate Grace is an American middle distance runner. A multiple All-American runner for Yale University, she turned professional in 2011. Grace competed for the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics, making it to the final of the 800 metres.
Emily Sisson is a professional runner for New Balance in Phoenix, Arizona. Emily Sisson was 9th at the 2017 London IAAF World Outdoor Track and Field Championships for 10,000 meters, and won the USATF road 10k Championships in 2016 and 5k in 2018. In the 2019 London Marathon, her first try at the distance, she placed 6th in a time of 2:23:08. In December 2020, she ran the Valencia Half-Marathon in 1:07:26, narrowly missing the American record set by Molly Huddle in Houston on January 14, 2018. Sisson subsequently qualified to compete at the 2020 Olympics in the 10,000 m run, by coming in 1st place at the US Olympic Trials; she finished 10th at the event. On May 7, 2022, clocking in at 1:07:11 she broke the USA woman's half marathon record at the 500Festival Mini-Marathon in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Courtney Frerichs is an American middle-distance runner from Nixa, Missouri, who specializes in steeplechase. Frerichs placed second in steeplechase behind Emma Coburn and ahead of Colleen Quigley at the 2016 US Olympic Trials to qualify to represent the United States at the 2016 Summer Olympics. She won the silver medal at the 2017 World Championships, becoming the seventh fastest woman in the history of the event. Emma Coburn won the gold medal at the same event, thus making Coburn and Frerichs the first female Americans to win the gold and silver medal in any individual World Championships or Olympics race longer than 400 meters since the 1912 Stockholm Games.

Aisling Marie Cuffe is a long-distance runner from the United States. She competed in the 2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics placing 6th in 3000 meters. Cuffe ran 15:09 for the runner-up finish at 2012 Great Edinburgh International Cross Country. She competed in the 2011 IAAF World Cross Country Championships – Junior women's race placing 17th. Cuffe placed 2nd in 5000 meters at 2009 Pan American Junior Athletics Championships.
Molly Seidel is an American long distance runner. Seidel represented the United States at the Great Edinburgh Cross Country in 2012, 2013, and 2018. In her first-ever marathon, Seidel placed second at the 2020 U.S. Marathon Olympic Trials. Later, Seidel went on to win the bronze medal in her third career marathon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. At the University of Notre Dame, she was a 4-time NCAA champion, 6-time NCAA All-American, 6-time Atlantic Coast Conference champion and 2016 female ACC Athlete of the Year.

Allison "Allie" Ostrander is an American long-distance runner from Soldotna, Alaska. The repeat NCAA Division I steeplechase champion in 2017, 2018 and 2019, she competed for the Boise State University Broncos. In July 2019, Ostrander announced her plans to forgo her final season of NCAA eligibility and begin running professionally.

The 2020 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships was the 82nd annual NCAA Men's Division I Cross Country Championship and the 40th annual NCAA Women's Division I Cross Country Championship to determine the team and individual national champions of NCAA Division I men's and women's collegiate cross country running in the United States. In all, four different titles were contested: men's and women's individual and team championships. Results were track and field results reporting system. In the men's 10k, Conner Mantz of Brigham Young University took home the individual title in 29:26.1, while Northern Arizona University won the team title, scoring 60 points and defeating second-placed University of Notre Dame (87) and third-placed Oklahoma State University (142). In the women's 6k, Mercy Chelangat of the University of Alabama won the individual title in 20:01.1, while Brigham Young University won the team title with 96 points, beating second-placed NC State University (161) and third-placed Stanford University (207).
Joe Klecker is an American distance runner. He finished 2nd in the NCAA DI XC Championships in 2019 and turned pro with On Running, coached by Dathan Ritzenhein in 2020. Klecker holds PRs of 3:37.55 for 1500m, 7:39.18 for 3000m, 13:06.67 for 5000m, and 27:23.44 for 10000m, all of which were set in his Professional Career.
