Andrew Howard Jones (born 9 May 1959) is a former New Zealand cricketer. Between 1987 and 1995 he played in 39 Test matches and 87 One Day Internationals for New Zealand. Domestically he played for Central Districts,Otago,and Wellington.
Andrew Jones attended Nelson College from 1972 to 1976,and was a member of the school's 1st XI cricket team for four years. He was awarded the Wood Cup for best all-round athlete at the college in 1975. [1]
Jones did not make his international debut until the age of 27,playing his first Test match in April 1987 against Sri Lanka. He became a solid number 3 batsman,where he played all but four of his Test innings. New Zealand only won six of the 39 Tests in which he played. Jones's batting style was characterised by an unusual but effective jumping method against short deliveries.
He was a batsman who was difficult to dismiss when set,he scored over 140 in five of his seven hundreds. He had a strong record against subcontinental sides,against India he scored 401 runs at 50.13 and made 625 runs at 62.50 against the Sri Lankans. It was against the Sri Lankans that he made his highest Test score of 186 in Wellington. With Martin Crowe,Jones made a partnership of 467 which became a Test record as the highest partnership by any side for any wicket. The innings came in a prolific period for Jones as he made 122 and an unbeaten 100 in his next two Test innings. Jones is currently the only New Zealand batsman to have ever scored 3 hundreds in consecutive innings.
Despite maintaining an average of 35.69 in 87 ODI innings,he never scored a century in that format of the game. His highest score of 93 came in Sharjah against Bangladesh. Jones was New Zealand's second highest runscorer at the 1992 Cricket World Cup. [2] [3] [4]

Currently,he is the head coach of the Sri Lanka National Cricket Team.
The New Zealand national cricket team represents New Zealand in men's international cricket. Nicknamed the Black Caps,they played their first Test in 1930 against England in Christchurch,becoming the fifth country to play Test cricket. From 1930 New Zealand had to wait until 1956,more than 26 years,for its first Test victory,against the West Indies at Eden Park in Auckland. They played their first ODI in the 1972–73 season against Pakistan in Christchurch. New Zealand are the inaugural champions of WTC which they won in 2021 and they have also won ICC CT in 2000. They have played in the CWC final twice and the T20 WC final once.
Saeed Anwar is a Pakistani former cricketer and a former captain for Tests and ODIs. An opening batsman and occasional slow left arm orthodox bowler,Anwar played international cricket between 1989 and 2003. Considered one of greatest opening batsmen Pakistan has ever produced and also regarded as one of the finest batsmen of his era. Anwar has scored twenty centuries in ODIs,more than any other Pakistani batsmen in this format. He played 55 Test matches,scoring 4052 runs with eleven centuries,average 45.52. In 247 One Day Internationals (ODIs) he made 8824 runs at an average of 39.21. Anwar is credited for being one of the most stylish batsmen of 1990s alongside Mark Waugh,Damien Martyn and Sourav Ganguly. His timing,elegance and placement of cricket shots are widely admired by cricket fans. He was a part of the squad which finished as runners-up at the 1999 Cricket World Cup.
Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer and captain of the Sri Lankan national cricket team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen from Sri Lankan cricket.
Brendan Ross Murray Taylor is a Zimbabwean former international cricketer and a former Zimbabwean captain,who played all formats of the game. Taylor is a right-handed batsman but is also an off spinner. In 2015,former Zimbabwe captain Alistair Campbell described Taylor as "our standout player for the last seven or eight years". He is known for his unorthodox shots especially his ability to play upper cuts over the third man and ramp shots with elegance and are often considered as his trademark signature shots. His style of play and ability to make substantial contribution with the bat often drew comparisons with that of Andy Flower. The third New Zealand bowler to take 300 Test wickets,he was one of the country's youngest cricketers,debuting at the age of 19 in February 2008. On his Test debut against England he took 5 wickets and made 77 off 40 balls in the second innings. He plays for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield,Ford Trophy and Super Smash as well as Northland in the Hawke Cup. He was named as New Zealand's captain for the first T20I against West Indies in place of Kane Williamson,who was rested for that game. The Blackcaps won that match by 47 runs. Southee was a member of the New Zealand team that won the 2019–2021 ICC World Test Championship. Southee's Test batting strike rate of 82.68 is the third highest among batsmen with a minimum of 2000 careeer runs. He was also a part of the New Zealand squads to finish as runners-up in two Cricket World Cup finals in 2015 and 2019.
Mohammad Mahmudullah Riyad,also known as Riyad,is a Bangladeshi cricketer and former T20I captain. He plays for Dhaka Division and has represented national team in all formats. Hettige Don Rumesh Lahiru Thirimanne,known as Lahiru Thirimanne is a former Sri Lankan international cricketer,and a former ODI captain. He is a left-handed opening batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He had also acted as a vice-captain of the Sri Lanka One Day International team,when he was dropped from the team after poor performances. He was recalled in 2018 for the national team. Pathum Nissanka Silva is a professional Sri Lankan cricketer who plays for Sri Lanka in all three formats of the game. He made his international debut for the Sri Lanka cricket team in March 2021 and is currently the permanent opening batsman. On 9 February 2024,Nissanka scored an ODI double hundred,becoming the first Sri Lankan to achieve the feat.
