Jeffrey John Crowe (born 14 September 1958) is a former New Zealand cricketer. He played Test and One Day International cricket for New Zealand from 1983 to 1990,and first-class cricket for South Australia and then Auckland.
He has been an ICC match referee since 2004.
Crowe was born in Auckland,New Zealand. He is the son of Dave Crowe,and the elder brother of Martin Crowe. The Crowe brothers are cousins of Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe,whose father John Alexander Crowe is the brother of Dave Crowe;their grandfather John Doubleday Crowe,emigrated to New Zealand from Wrexham in Wales. He is also the great grandson of All Black Francis Jervis (his mother's maternal grandfather).
Crowe's father played in three first-class cricket matches for Canterbury and Wellington between 1953 and 1957.
Crowe began his first-class cricket career at South Australia,where he played from 1977–78 to 1981–82. There was a suggestion that he could play for the Australian cricket team,but he returned to New Zealand in 1982–83 to play for Auckland,from with the hope of playing for New Zealand instead. He worked on his fielding,and also occasionally kept wicket.
After a benefit season at Auckland in 1990–91,and one more domestic season,he retired from playing professional cricket at the end of the 1991–92 season.
He was born just over 4 years before his younger brother Martin,but he made his Test debut for New Zealand in the First Test against Sri Lanka at Christchurch in March 1983,just over a year after his brother. He scored his maiden Test century (128) in the Third Test against England in Auckland in February 1984.
Playing against the dominant West Indies team in 1984–85,his team was following on 225 runs in arrears in the Fourth Test at Sabina Park in Kingston,Jamaica,in May 1985. Crowe went in at number 3 in the second innings,with the score at 1–13. Against a fierce fast bowling attack that included Courtney Walsh,Malcolm Marshall and Joel Garner,he scored his second Test century (112);but despite his heroics,New Zealand still lost by 10 wickets. He was captain of the New Zealand cricket team for six Tests - a one-off Test against Sri Lanka at Colombo in April 1987 (when he scored the third and last of his Test centuries,120 not out in a drawn match) and then three on tour to Australia in December 1987,and finally two at home against England in February 1988. One of the matches against Australia was lost,and the other five were drawn. Crowe played his last Test against Australia at Wellington in March 1990. He also played in 75 ODIs from 1983 to 1990,including the Cricket World Cups in England in 1983 and in India in 1987.
Crowe was manager of the New Zealand cricket team from 1999 to 2003. He ran a golfing holiday business in Florida for a period,and since 2004 he has been an ICC match referee,including the World Cup finals in 2007 and 2011. He is one of three people to have been referee in more than 75 Tests (the others are Chris Broad and Ranjan Madugalle) and one of four to have been referee in more than 220 ODIs (as well as Crowe,Broad,and Madugalle,the fourth is Roshan Mahanama). In January 2017 he refereed his 250th ODI match,when he officiated the fifth ODI between Australia and Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval. [2]
The 1992 Cricket World Cup was the fifth staging of the Cricket World Cup,organised by the International Cricket Council (ICC). It was held in Australia and New Zealand from 22 February to 25 March 1992,and finished with Pakistan beating England by 22 runs in the final to become the World Cup champions for the first time. 1992 World Cup is remembered for the controversial "Rain Rule" which also ended South Africa's best chance of winning the world cup.

Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who currently serves as a cricketing coach. Mahela is the most successful captain for Sri Lanka along with Sanath Jayasuriya. He made his Test cricket debut in August 1997 and his One Day International (ODI) debut the following season in January 1998. In 2006 along with his team mate Kumar Sangakkara,Jayawardene made the highest ever partnership in First Class cricket,scoring 624 runs for the third wicket in the first test match of Sri Lanka's home series against South Africa. He appeared in 652 international matches representing Sri Lanka in a career spanning for about 18 years. During his international career,he also formed a healthy relationship and friendship with fellow veteran player Kumar Sangakkara.
Deshabandu Roshan Siriwardene Mahanama is a former Sri Lankan cricketer and a former ICC match referee. He was a key member for 1996 Cricket World Cup winning team for Sri Lanka. He is the first man to have stood as a match referee in a day-night test match in Test history.
Sidath Wettimuny is a former Sri Lankan cricketer,who played Test cricket and One Day Internationals as an opening batsman from 1982 to 1987. Kyle David Mills is a New Zealand cricket coach and former international cricketer who is the current bowling coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders. Graeme Fredrick Labrooy is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played in nine Tests and 44 ODIs from 1986 to 1992. He was the chairman of selectors for the national team and currently serves as an international match referee. His younger brother Wendell Labrooy is also a first-class cricketer and match referee. Labrooy holds the unique distinction of never playing any of his nine test matches at home. He had modelled his text book bowling action on Richard Hadlee and he was regarded as a huge fan of Hadlee.
The 2006 ICC Champions Trophy was a One Day International cricket tournament held in India from 7 October to 5 November 2006. It was the fifth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The tournament venue was not confirmed until mid-2005 when the Indian government agreed that tournament revenues would be free from tax. Australia won the tournament,their first Champions Trophy victory. They were the only team to get one loss in the tournament,as all other teams lost at least two matches. West Indies,their final opponents,beat Australia in the group stage but were bowled out for 138 in the final and lost by eight wickets on the Duckworth–Lewis method. Timothy Grant Southee,is a New Zealand international cricketer who plays all forms of the game. He is a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a hard-hitting lower order batsman. He was the third New Zealand bowler to take 300 test wickets. He was one of New Zealand's youngest cricketers,debuting at the age of 19 in February 2008. On his Test debut against England he took 5 wickets and made 77 off 40 balls in the second innings. He plays for Northern Districts in the Plunket Shield,Ford Trophy and Super Smash as well as Northland in the Hawke Cup. He was named as New Zealand's captain for the first T20I against West Indies in place of Kane Williamson,who was rested for that game. The Blackcaps won that match by 47 runs.

The Emirates Elite Panel of ICC Referees is composed of former international cricket players who are appointed by the ICC to oversee all Test match,One Day International and Twenty20 International cricket matches in the capacity of Match referee. The referees are ultimately in charge of all international cricket matches,and act as the ICC's representative at the grounds. In addition they are responsible for imposing penalties for infringements of the ICC Code of Conduct,and so being ex-international cricketers they can ensure that the punishments dealt out are just. The referees also form part of the ICC's umpire performance review,submitting reports about the umpires after each match.
The 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy was a One Day International cricket tournament held in Kenya. New Zealand were crowned champions and cashed the winner's cheque of US$250 000. Making his first-class debut during the 1993–94 season of the Shell Trophy,he took ten wickets in his debut match,and represented the New Zealand Cricket Academy twice later in the season.
