Ann A. Scott Timmer (born September 12,1960) is an American lawyer who has served as the chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court since 2024. She concurrently has served as a justice of the court since 2012.
Timmer attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1982. [1] Timmer graduated from Arizona State University College of Law in 1985. [2] In 2018,she graduated from Duke Law School with an LLM in judicial studies. [3]
Timmer worked for private law firms in Phoenix,Arizona. She focused on commercial and employment litigation,and tried capital murder cases both as a defense attorney and as a special prosecutor. [4]
Prior to her 2012 appointment by then Governor Jan Brewer [5] to the Arizona Supreme Court,Timmer was the chief judge of the Arizona Court of Appeals,Division One. She was appointed in 2000 by former Governor Jane Dee Hull. Timmer was retained to the court in 2002 and 2008. She became chief justice of the Arizona Supreme Court on July 1,2024. [6]
Timmer's sister,Laurie Roberts,is a columnist for the Arizona Republic . Roberts frequently writes columns that are critical of Arizona's judiciary and other aspects of Arizona government. [7]
Timmer is married and has three daughters. Because one of her daughters is deaf,Timmer learned American Sign Language at the Arizona State Schools for the Deaf and Blind in Tucson. [8]

As chief justice,she succeeded Ruth McGregor. She concluded her service as Arizona's chief justice in July 2014 when she passed the gavel to new Chief Justice Scott Bales. Berch had been a justice of the state's highest court since March 2002,when she was appointed to the court by Republican governor Jane Dee Hull. She retired in September 2015.

He was elected by his fellow justices as Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court,to replace Rebecca White Berch,effective June 27,2014. Bales served as Arizona's chief justice until July 31,2019.
