Arild Hermstad (born 15 October 1966) is a Norwegian politician for the Green Party,who has served as the party leader since 2022. He previously served as Party spokesperson,alongside Une Bastholm,from 2018 to 2020,and then the deputy leader from 2020 to 2022.
Hermstad took his secondary education at Bergen Cathedral School in 1985. After studying economics for two years at the Norwegian School of Economics,Hermstad enrolled at the University of Bergen whence he graduated with a major in social geography in 1995. [1]
Hermstad is married and has two children. [2]
Hermstad has previously worked in a bank, [1] as a brigade coordinator in Latin America,with local environmental work in Bergen and has been employed by the Rafto Foundation.
He first became known nationwide as leader of Framtiden i våre hender from 2001 to 2017. [1] He was also the leader of the Cyclists' National Association from 2013 to 2018.
He was the Green Party's candidate in Hordaland constituency for the 2017 and 2021 election,but failed to secure a seat on both occasions. [3] [4]
On 12 May 2018,he was elected spokesperson for the Green Party,alongside incumbent Une Bastholm,succeeding Rasmus Hansson. [5]
Following a national conference in 2019,the Green Party decided to elect a single leader,abolishing their tradition of having multiple spokespeople. During a meeting on 25 April 2020 (held digitally due to the COVID-19 pandemic),Hermstad became one of two deputy leaders,alongside Kriss Rokkan Iversen,with Bastholm as leader. [6]
On 17 August 2022,Bastholm announced her resignation as party leader and the Green Party committee scheduled an extrondinary congress for the autumn. Shortly afterwards,Hermstad announced his leadership candidacy,while he in addition would become acting leader on 22 August until the autumn congress. [7] He was designated leader on 10 October,with Lan Marie Berg as deputy leader. [8] He was formally elected at the extraordinary congress on 26 November,winning 102 votes against Kristoffer Robin Haug's 101. [9] He was re-elected at the 2024 party convention. [10]
Between 2 March 2020 and 9 March 2021,he was acting Oslo City Commissioner for Transport and the Environment in addition to Urban Planning,in Lan Marie Berg's and Hanna Marcussen's absences. [11] [12] He again took over Marcussen's duties when she took paternal leave in May 2023. [13]
The Socialist Left Party is a democratic socialist political party in Norway. Positioned on the left-wing of the political spectrum,it is opposed to European Union and the European Economic Area membership. SV supports a strong public sector,stronger social welfare programs,environmentalism,and republicanism. As of 2018,the party had 11,385 members;the number has steadily increased since a low point in 2015. The party leader is Kirsti Bergstø,who was elected on 18 March 2023

Eva Kristin Hansen is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. She briefly served as the President of the Storting from October to November 2021. She has also served as an MP for South Trøndelag since 2005. She was also leader of the Workers' Youth League from 2000 to 2002.
Raymond Johansen is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. He served as Governing Mayor of Oslo from 2015 to 2023. A former member of the Socialist Left Party,Johansen previously served as the Oslo city commissioner for transport and environment from 1992 to 1995,when his party withdrew from the city cabinet. After joining Labour,he served as the party secretary from 2009 to 2015.
Hanna Elise Marcussen is a Norwegian politician for the Green Party. She served as Oslo's City Commissioner for Urban Development from 2015 to 2023.
Lubna Boby Jaffery is a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party. She has served as minister of culture and equality since 2023 and a deputy member of parliament for Hordaland since 2009. She previously served as Bergen city commissioner for labour,social affairs,and housing from 2019 to 2021.
Guri Melby is a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. She has served as the party leader since 2020 and Minister of Education from 2020 to 2021. She is also a member of parliament for Oslo since 2021,having previously been a deputy member for the same constituency between 2013 and 2021. Locally,she has also served as Oslo's City Commissioner for Transport and the Environment between 2013 and 2015.
The 1994 national convention of the Progress Party of Norway was held from 15 April to 17 April at the hotel BolkesjøTuristhotell in Bolkesjø,Telemark. It was originally set up to be a normal convention with 157 delegates in a non-election year,but because of mounting antagonism between a traditionalist and a libertarian faction,it became clear some months before the conventions that personal positions could be at stake. The party leader seat,held by Carl I. Hagen since 1978,was up for re-election. The deputy leaders Ellen Wibe and Hans J. Røsjorde was not up for election until 1995,but there were talks about forming a motion of no confidence against Wibe. The political disagreements roughly corresponded to a cleavage between two factions.
Sveinung Rotevatn is a Norwegian politician for the Liberal Party. Rotevatn comes from Nordfjordeid,Sogn og Fjordane,and has a master's degree in law from the University of Bergen. He served as Minister of Climate and the Environment from 2020 to 2021. Prior to that,he served as a state secretary at the same department from 2018 to 2020 under then minister Ola Elvestuen.
Rasmus Johan Michael Hansson is a Norwegian biologist,civil servant,environmental activist and a former national spokesperson for the Green Party. He led the Norwegian chapter of World Wide Fund for Nature from 2000 to 2012. In 2013,he was elected to the Parliament of Norway as the first representative for the Green Party.
Tina Bru is a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. From 2020 to 2021,she served as the Minister of Petroleum and Energy. She was elected to the Storting from Rogaland in 2013 and became a member of the Standing Committee on Energy and the Environment. She was reelected to the Storting for the period 2017–2021,and continued as a member of the Standing Committee on Energy and the Environment.
Une Aina Bastholm is a Norwegian politician and former leader of Green Party. She represented Oslo in the Storting from 2017 to 2021 and during this time was the only member of her party with a parliamentary seat. She was elected to represent Akershus following the 2021 election.
Sigbjørn Gjelsvik is a Norwegian politician for the Centre Party. He was elected to Parliament in 2017. He also served as minister of local government from 2022 to 2023.
