Army Stadium Peshawar also known as Karnal Sher Khan Stadium is located in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar. The stadium is owned & operated by Pakistan Army and it is also responsible for development of the stadium. [1]

Overview And History

Army Stadium Peshawar is an open entertainment and recreational site in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. [2] [3] The stadium was renamed to Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed Stadium in 1999, in the memory of Karnal Sher Khan Shaheed, who was martyred in the Kargil war with India. [1]

The stadium has restaurants & take aways, shopping stalls, music stores, amusement parks and gaming facilities. These facilities are now been shifted to adjacent Sher Khan Shaheed Park Complex. Since December 2016, McDonald has also started functioning plus soft launch of Food Court Complex to house Tutti Fruiti, Nan Bar, Peshawari Baithak and Chaman Ice Cream at the moment. [4] [5]

It is situated near to a number of important buildings and structures.[ citation needed ]

Karnal Sher Khan was a military officer of the Pakistan Army. He was one of only eleven recipients of the Nishan-e-Haider. He was a captain in the 27th Sindh Regiment of the Pakistan Army and later was posted to 12th NLI Regiment during the Kargil Conflict. He was killed in action during the Kargil War. For his bravery during the Kargil War, he was awarded Nishan-e-Haider, which is Pakistan's highest military gallantry award. His name is the localised form of the rank Colonel.

Lund Khwar, also Lundkhwar | Urdu: لوندخوڑ) and pronounced "/Lu:/+/nd/, /Kh/+/va'/+/r:/" is a historical village and union council of Takht Bhai Tehsil in Mardan District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is located at 34°23'22 N 71°58'51 E, with an altitude of 371 metres. The name "Lund Khwar" literally means "the ever-flowing stream or brook". Origins of the founding of Lund Khwar are shrouded in mystery. Archaeological and historical evidences indicate the nook point towards the Gandharan era. Earliest written accounts of the village trace it back to 8th century, with the arrival of the Uthman Khel branch of the Yousafzai, and in 15th century, by the Khattak tribesmen of the Afghans. Currently, it is a major town near the entrance to the Malakand mountains. Alternatively, there is also a Lund Khwar in the Paktika Province of Afghanistan.

Hayat Mohammad Khan Sherpao, simply known as Hayat Sherpao, was a left-wing intellectual and socialist, serving as the 15th Governor of North West Frontier Province of Pakistan, as well as vice-chairman of Pakistan People's Party.
