Ashok Saraf (born 4 June 1947) is an actor mainly working in Marathi and Hindi cinema. He is known as the "King of Marathi Film Industry". [1]
Saraf began his career in 1969 with the Marathi film Janaki. [2] He went on to act in numerous films throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including Donhi Gharcha Pahuna, Jawal Ye Laju Nako, Tumcha Aamcha Jamala , Chimanrao Gundyabhau, Deed Shahane, Haldikunku, Duniya Kari Salam, and many more. [3] But he gained popularity through Dada Kondke's 1975 film Pandu Havaldar . [4] [5] He continued to work in Marathi films alongside Laxmikant Berde, Sachin, and Mahesh Kothare. [6]
During that time, Marathi films entered a new era of comedy. Saraf starred in several notable Marathi films of this period, including Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi , Aayatya Gharat Gharoba , Balache Baap Brahmachari , Bhutacha Bhau , and Dhum Dhadaka . [7] Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi remains a popular film to this day, and its freshness and humor continue to entertain audiences. It broke numerous records at the time of its release. [8] The duo of Saraf and Berde became one of the most successful comedy pairs of that time, and they also worked in several Hindi films together. [9]
Saraf has also acted in various Marathi plays and Hindi television serials. He later started his own production house, "Aniket Telefilms," which is managed by his wife Nivedita Saraf.
Saraf has starred in numerous Marathi films. He has also graced Hindi films and television shows with his presence. His talent has been recognized with numerous awards, including five Filmfare Awards and ten Maharashtra State Film Awards. He is the recipient of V. Shantaram Award and Maharashtra Bhushan Award. Ashok Saraf is an Indian actor and comedian, known for his work in Marathi and Hindi films along with theatre in both languages. Saraf has received several awards including four Filmfare Marathi Awards. He is referred to as the Mahanayak, Ashok Samrat or Mama of the Marathi film industry. In 2023, he received the Maharashtra Bhushan, the highest civilian honour in the Indian state of Maharashtra.
Nivedita Saraf is an Indian film, television and theatre actress. She made her film debut as a child in the 1977 Hindi film Apnapan. and started her career in lead roles as a teen-adult in 1984, when she was cast in the Marathi film Navri Mile Navryala. She quickly established herself as one of the prominent and leading female stars of Marathi cinema, with the roles in Gharcha Bhedi (1984), Dhoom Dhadaka (1985), De Danadan (1987), Thartharat (1989) and Majha Chakula (1994) with Mahesh Kothare, Kiss Bai Kiss (1988), Gholat Ghol (1988), Pheka Pheki (1989), De Dhadak Be Dhadak (1989) with Laxmikant Berde, Balache Baap Brahmachari (1989), Tuzhi Mazhi Jamli Jodi (1990), Aamchyasarkhe Aamhich (1990), Tu Sukhakarta (1993), Dhamaal Jodi (1995) with Ashok Saraf, and Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi (1988) with Siddharth Ray.
Priya Arun Berde is an Indian actress who has worked in several Marathi language films. She is the wife of the actor Laxmikant Berde and is the daughter of actress Lata Arun. She joined Bharatiya Janata Party in 2023.
Sachin Pilgaonkar, often known mononymously by his screen name Sachin, is an Indian actor, director, producer, writer and singer of Marathi and Hindi films. He has directed and acted in several Marathi films of the late 1980s and early 1990s. He has received several awards including two National Film Awards and two Filmfare Awards Marathi.

Navra Maza Navsacha 2 is a 2024 Indian Marathi-language comedy-drama film directed and produced by Sachin Pilgaonkar. A sequel to the 2004 film Navra Maza Navsacha, it features Hemal Ingle and Swapnil Joshi as the daughter and son-in-law of Sachin and Supriya Pilgaonkar. The film also stars Ashok Saraf, Siddharth Jadhav, and Nirmiti Sawant in supporting roles.
