DD Sahyadri is a Marathi TV channel. It is a regional channel dedicated to Maharashtra. It shows Marathi serials, news, films infotainment and educational programs about agriculture, healthcare, and other subjects. It is part of Doordarshan network. It is a Free-to-air channel. [2] [3]

Name

The name 'Sahyadri' in 'DD Sahyadri' comes from the a group of hills in the Western Ghats. This is similar to how other regional DD channels are named.

History

2 October 1972 (Gandhi Jayanti): Doordarshan Kendra Mumbai started broadcasting two hours a day on DD National in black-and-white. The transmission was broadcast using a small transmitter that served few TV households. [4]

15 August 1994 (Independence Day): DD Sahyadri was launched as separate channel as RLSS Marathi (DD 10) throughout India. [1]

2 June 1999: A new studio for DD Sahyadri was inaugurated. [1]

1 January 2000: DD 10 broadcast time increased to seventeen hours a day. [1]

5 April 2000: DD 10 was renamed DD Sahyadri. [1]

Description

DD Sahyadri broadcasts serials, informative programmes, public debates, and film-based programmes. Old and new Marathi films shown on this channel. DD Sahyadri offers about six to eight event properties a year with the big ones being the annual DD Awards, Hirkhani Awards (felicitating women achievers) and the Navaratan Awards. DD Sahyadri is supported by Doordarshan studios in Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur. It makes an annual live telecast of Dahihandi Mahotsav from Thane.

DD Sahyadri's Mission is 'To inform, Educate and Entertain Marathi knowing people in their language, idiom & Culture' and 'To showcase the Real Maharashtra Culture, its values, traditions, modernization, diversity and its unity through programmes of high quality in the highest tradition of Public Service Broadcasting with true Indian National Spirit'.

Competitors and Ranking

The channel competes with private channels such as Zee Marathi, Colors Marathi, Star Pravah, Sony Marathi and Zee Yuva and FTA channels such as Fakt Marathi. In the TAM Report for the week ending on 5 March 2011, DD Sahyadri was ranked the most watched Marathi-language channel with 32.4% reach. Sahyadri is also considered the best regional TV channel, compared to other regional Doordarshan TV channels. In week 47 of 2020, 7 chya Batmya comes in Top 5 Marathi TV shows. Also, in lockdown of 2020, 7 chya Batmya always top the TRP charts.

Doordarshan Indias public service broadcaster

Doordarshan is an Indian public service broadcaster founded by the Government of India, owned by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and one of Prasar Bharati's two divisions. One of India's largest broadcasting organisations in studio and transmitter infrastructure, it was established on 15 September 1959. Prasar Bharati Public broadcaster in India

DD North-East previously known as DD-13 is a state owned TV channel telecasting from Doordarshan Kendra in Guwahati, Agartala, Kohima, Imphal, Jorhat, Silchar, Dibrugarh, Tura, Aizawl, Itanagar and Shillong. On 4 August 2019 a particular 24x7 Doordarshan channel relaunched for Assam state named as DD Assam & it replaced DD North East & the channel was launched by Minister of Information & Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar Ji through virtual event & CEO of Prasar Bharati Mr. Shashi Shekhar Vempati & other top levels of Doordarshan was present on the event. DD News Indian television news channel

DD News is an Indian news channel of Doordarshan, it is India's only 24-hour terrestrial TV news channel broadcasting solely in Hindi, and formerly in English. The Prasar Bharati Board approved the proposal to start a 24-hour news channel in place of DD Metro, which was closing. This was subsequently approved by the Union Cabinet in a 3 October 2003 meeting.

DD Yadagiri Indian public Telugu-language television channel

DD Yadagiri is a state-owned Telugu language television channel operated by India's national broadcaster Doordarshan. It is one of the 11 Indian regional language channels operated by Doordarshan and is telecast from Doordarshan Kendra, Hyderabad and caters the state of Telangana. The channel is named for Lord Narasimha of Yadagirigutta in the state.

In terrestrial mode, DD Chandigarh is available to 61.7% of the population of Chandigarh. Transmission of programs mainly in Hindi and Punjabi language for one hour a day i. e from 4:00 pm to 5:00 pm including 10 minutes of news on DD Punjabi.

Purushottam Darwhekar was an Indian writer and producer of Indian classical and semi-classical musical plays and radio and television programs. He is credited with a revival of the Marathi musical theater in the 1960s.

Manaswini Lata Ravindra is a Marathi playwright, screenwriter and director, known for writing the play Amar Photo Studio and also being one of the writers of the Marathi sitcom Dil Dosti Duniyadari. In 2016, she is a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar for her short story collection, Blogchya Aarshyapallyad.
