Ataa was a settlement in the Disko Bay region of western Greenland. It was located on the eastern coast of Alluttoq Island, approximately 60 km (37 mi) to the north of Ilulissat and 30 km (19 mi) to the southeast of Qeqertaq.
Disko Bay is a bay on the western coast of Greenland. The bay constitutes a wide southeastern inlet of Baffin Bay.

The settlement was abandoned around 1960. It served as a backdrop for the 1997 Danish film Smilla's Sense of Snow , an adaptation of Peter Høeg's 1992 novel Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow . [1]
Smilla's Sense of Snow is a 1997 German-Danish-Swedish mystery thriller film directed by Bille August and starring Julia Ormond, Gabriel Byrne, and Richard Harris. Based on the 1992 novel Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow by Danish author Peter Høeg, the film is about a transplanted Greenlander, Smilla Jaspersen, who investigates the mysterious death of a small Inuit boy who lived in her housing complex in Copenhagen. Suspecting wrongdoing, Smilla uncovers a trail of clues leading towards a secretive corporation that has made several mysterious expeditions to Greenland.
Peter Høeg is a Danish writer of fiction. He is best known for his novel, Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow (1992).

Qeqertarsuaq is a port and town in Qeqertalik municipality, located on the south coast of Disko Island on the west coast of Greenland. Founded in 1773, the town is now home to a campus of the University of Copenhagen known as Arctic Station. "Qeqertarsuaq" is the Kalaallisut name for Disko Island and is also now used for several other islands on Greenland, including those formerly known as Upernavik and Herbert Island.
Scoresby Sund is a large fjord system of the Greenland Sea on the eastern coast of Greenland. It has a tree-like structure, with a main body approximately 110 km (68 mi) long that branches into a system of fjords covering an area of about 38,000 km2 (14,700 sq mi). The longest of the fjords extends 340–350 km inland from the coastline. The depth is 400–600 m in the main basin, but depths increase to up to 1,450 m (4,760 ft) in some fjords. It is one of the largest and longest fjord systems in the world.
Nanortalik, formerly Nennortalik, is a town in Nanortalik Island, Kujalleq municipality, southern Greenland. With 1,337 inhabitants as of 2013, it is the tenth-largest town in the country. The name Nanortalik means "Place of Polar Bears" or "Place Where the Polar Bears Go". It is the southernmost town in Greenland, with a population of over 1,000.
Kapisillit is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southwestern Greenland. In 2010, the settlement had 86 inhabitants. Kapisillit means the salmon in the Greenlandic language. The name refers to the belief that the only spawning-ground for salmon in Greenland is a river near the settlement.
Kuummiit is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southeastern Greenland. Founded in 1915, it had 331 inhabitants in 2013.
Kullorsuaq is a settlement in the Avannaata municipality in northwestern Greenland. It is the northernmost settlement in the Upernavik Archipelago, located on Kullorsuaq Island at the southern end of Melville Bay, itself part of the larger Baffin Bay.
Kitsissuarsuit is a settlement in the Avannaata municipality in western Greenland. The settlement was formerly founded in 1830 as Hunde Ejlande or Dog's Island, although it had already been used as a whaling station since 1817. Its population was 79 in 2010.
Kulusuk, formerly Kap Dan, is a settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in southeastern Greenland, located on an island of the same name. The settlement population of 267 includes many Danes choosing to live there due to the airport. In the Kalaallisut language, the name of the village means "Chest of a Black Guillemot".
Milne Land or Milneland is a large island in eastern Greenland. It is the third largest island of Greenland, after the main island of Greenland and Disko Island. It is named after British admiral David Milne.
Qaasuitsup was a municipality in Greenland, operational from 1 January 2009 to 31 December 2017. As of January 2013 its population was 17,498. The administrative centre of the municipality was in Ilulissat. The municipality consisted of the former municipalities of western and northern Greenland, each named after the biggest settlement:
Uunarteq, formerly Kap Tobin, is an abandoned settlement in the Sermersooq municipality in eastern Greenland, located 7 km (4.3 mi) south of Ittoqqortoormiit.
Nuussuaq Peninsula is a mainland peninsula in northwestern Greenland, located at the northern end of Upernavik Archipelago, approximately 70 km (43 mi) to the south of Melville Bay. It is much smaller than its namesake in western Greenland.
Greenlandic Danes are residents of Denmark with Greenlandic Inuit background and descent. There are around 20,000 people of Greenlandic Inuit descent living in Denmark.
