Umanak (Kalaallisut: Uummannaq, "Heart-shaped") was a former Moravian mission in mid-western Greenland, located upfjord from Neu-Herrnhut (modern Nuuk). [1]

It was founded in 1861 and surrendered to the Lutheran Church of Denmark in 1900. [2] [3]

Founded in 1763 as Omenak, the town is a hunting and fishing base, with a canning factory and a marble quarry. In 1932, the Universal Greenland-Filmexpedition with director Arnold Fanck released the film S.O.S. Eisberg near Uummannaq.

Qaarsut Airport is an airport in Qaarsut, a settlement on the Nuussuaq Peninsula in Avannaata municipality in northwestern Greenland. It is a primary airport with a gravel runway, capable of serving STOL aircraft of Air Greenland in all seasons. There is a small cafeteria in the tiny arrivals/departures hall. It is connected by a 4 km (2.5 mi) gravel road to Qaarsut and is 13.5 nautical miles northwest of Uummannaq.

There are no facilities at the helistop; check-in is administered in the Pilersuisoq communal store, the central point of the settlement.

Akunnaat is a former community in southern Greenland on the island of Akonemiok or Qeqertarsuatsiaat, 3 miles (4.8 km) from the trading post of Fisher's Inlet.

Idlorpait is a former Moravian mission in southernmost Greenland located between the missions at Lichtenau and Friedrichsthal.

Alluitsoq, formerly spelled Agdluitsok, is a former settlement in southern Greenland, located on the Alluitsoq or Lichtenau Fjord near Cape Farewell. It is about 13 kilometers from Ammassivik (Sletten), located on the opposite side of the same fjord.

The Moravian missions in Greenland were established by the Moravian Church or United Brethren and operated between 1733 and 1900. They were operated under the auspices of the Royal Danish College of Missions until its dissolution in 1859 and were finally surrendered to the Lutheran Church of Denmark in 1900. Missionaries were allocated to the region and sometimes even sent wives who had been chosen for them and approved by the drawing of lots, a form of Cleromancy.

The 2005 Coca-Cola GM was the 35th edition of the Greenlandic Men's Football Championship. The final round was held in Uummannaq from 25 to 30 August. It was won by B-67 Nuuk for the fifth time in its history.
