Aulacoptera is a genus of moths of the family Crambidae. The original name Aulacophora is a junior homonym of the name AulacophoraDejean, 1835, and was replaced by George Hampson in 1896.
Pyraustinae is a large subfamily of the lepidopteran family Crambidae, the crambid snout moths. It currently includes over 1,400 species; most of them tropical but some found in temperate regions including both North America and Europe.

The genus was named in 1836 by the French entomologist Louis Alexandre Auguste Chevrolat, in Dejean's Catalogue des Coléoptères. The name, from Ancient Greek, signifies "furrow-bearer"' from aulax, "furrow".
