Austin Tam-George is a Nigerian academic and communication consultant who served in the Rivers State Government as the Commissioner for Information and Communication, from 21 December 2015 to 23 June 2017 when he voluntarily resigned from his post in Governor Nyesom Wike's Cabinet.

Tam-George studied leadership and public policy at Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and earned a Ph.D from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.

He was also Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow and lecturer at the Centre for African Studies, University of Cape Town, South Africa.

Before his appointment into Government, Tam-George was the executive director of the Institute of Communication and Corporate Studies in Lagos. [1]

Education

Tam-George was a Senior Executive Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Massachusetts,USA, where he studied leadership and public policy [October 2022 cohort).

He received his Ph.D. from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa in 2007 and attended the IESE Business School in Barcelona, where he studied communication and leadership in the International Faculty Programme in 2011. [1]

Tam-George earned a master's degree in English from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (1998).

Career

As an academic, he taught at Pan-African University in Nigeria and at University of Cape Town where he was an Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Research Fellow. [1]

In 2008, he worked as research consultant to the New Partnership for Africa’s Development in its good governance monitoring projects across Africa. [2]

Commissioner of Information and Communications

On 9 December 2015, the House of Assembly voted unanimously to confirm Tam-George as Governor Wike's choice to succeed Ibim Semenitari as the Commissioner of Information and Communications. [3] On 18 December 2015, he was officially sworn into office. [4]

Ipalibo Gogo Banigo is a Nigerian medical doctor and politician who is the current senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District since 2023. She served as the first female deputy governor of Rivers State from 2015 to 2023.

Daisy Wotube Okocha served as the 7th Chief Judge of Rivers State, in charge of the state's High Court of Justice, and Judicial Service Commission. She was appointed to the office by Governor Ezenwo Wike on 4 January 2016, and held it until her retirement on 15 January 2016. She had also served as Chief Judge in an acting capacity before attaining the substantive appointment.

In June 2015, former Governor Ezenwo Wike appointed him to serve as the Chief of Staff. of Rivers State Government. He was nominated as a commissioner designate in June 2023 subsequently he was sworn in as the honorable commissioner for special projects under the administration of Siminalayi Fubara the governor of Rivers State,he resigned on 9th may 2024 to answer the call to National Duty by the President Of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria, His Excellency Ahmed Bola Tinubu GCFR.He was appointed as the Managing Director/CEO of the Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority on 9th may 2024 by the President of The Federal Republic Of Nigeria Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Emmanuel Ihuoma Okah, commonly known as Emma Okah, is a lawyer and politician in Rivers State. A member of the People's Democratic Party, he served as Chief Press Secretary under Governor Odili, and was also Commissioner of Information under Omehia's government. He has chaired the Media and Publicity Committee of the Rivers State People's Democratic Party Campaign Organisation. After the PDP took over, Governor Ezenwo Wike appointed him to his cabinet. He was confirmed by the House on 5 June 2015 was sworn-in as Housing Commissioner on 12 June 2015.

The following is a timeline of the governorship of Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, also known as the Wike administration, from his inauguration as Governor of Rivers State on 29 May 2015 to 29 May 2023.

The First Wike Executive Council was the Executive Council of Rivers State between 5 June 2015 and 24 June 2017. It was led by Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike with Ipalibo Banigo as Vice-Chairman. The first set of appointments to the cabinet were made on 5 June 2015. The designees included Kenneth Kobani, Chukwuemeka Woke, Emmanuel C. Aguma, Fred Kpakol, Onimim Jacks, Emmanuel Okah and Opunabo Inko-Tariah. Governor Wike appointed Desmond Akawor, Ambassador to South Korea, to serve as Administrator of the Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority.

Onimim Ernestina Jacks is a lawyer serving since June 2015 as the Rivers State Commissioner of Agriculture in Nigeria. She is a member of the Rivers State People's Democratic Party.

The 2023 Rivers State gubernatorial election will take place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Rivers State, concurrent with elections to the Rivers State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—will be held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent PDP Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term.
