Kisona Selvaduray is a Malaysian badminton player. She was the bronze medalist at the 2013 Asian Youth Games in the women's singles category. She won her first senior international title at the Indonesia International Series tournament in the women's singles event. She also won gold medal twice in the Malaysia International Series tournament in 2017 and 2018. On top of that, she dominated the women's singles in 2019 SEA Games.

Badminton was introduced to Singapore by the British in the early 19th century. By the mid-1920s, the game became increasingly popular and spread quickly to the rest of the local population. Amid the rising popularity, badminton enthusiasts began forming clubs, or “parties”, to meet and play the game. It was during this period that the Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) was established to promote the sport and organise competitions. The first official annual open championships was held in that period with the best players from the tournament such as E. J. Vass, Tan Chong Tee, Alice Pennefather and Ong Siew Eng were chosen to represent Singapore in the regional tournaments.

Lee Shun Yang is a Malaysian badminton player. He won the silver medals in the men's team at the 2021 and 2023 SEA Games; and also a men's singles bronze medal in 2023.

Badminton events for the 1975 SEAP Games were held at Thai capital of Bangkok between 9 and 16 December 1975. At the end of the competitions, Malaysia stood top by winning four gold medals while host Thailand won gold in three events.

Badminton events for the 1971 SEAP Games were held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, between 12 and 15 December 1971. At the end of the competitions, host Malaysia stood top in the tally by winning five gold medals while Thailand won gold medals in Women's doubles and Women's team events.

Badminton events for the 1969 SEAP Games were held at Rangoon, Burma, between 6 and 13 December 1969. Competitions for only individual disciplines was conducted. Myint Myint Khin & Khin Than Nwe finished fourth. Malaysia won all five gold medals.

Badminton events for the 1967 SEAP Games were held at Bangkok, Thailand, between 9 and 16 December 1967. Host Thailand won gold medals in three disciplines while Malaysia stood second in the tally by winning two gold medals.

The badminton competition at the 1977 SEA Games took place at Selangor Badminton Association Hall and Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 19 to 26 November 1977. 7 events were featured similarly to the past edition.
