Season summary

Like in the first two seasons, the three tribes were divided based on the contestants country of origin. Along with this, each tribe was given the name of the country of its contestants origin in that country's native language. As the first twist of the season, in episode one all three tribes were forced to vote out one member. What the contestants didn't know was that these three eliminated players would later return to the game after the merge in episode five. As there were twelve players in the merge tribe and three finalists, there was a nine-member jury. As each country had to be represented in the final three, contestant Ranno Rätsep became a finalist in episode eight when Maris Valdre, the only other remaining member of the Estonian tribe left in the game, was voted out. Because of this, Ranno was immune from the final elimination challenge in episode ten when all remaining Latvian and Lithuanian contestants had to compete against contestants from their home country for a spot in the final three. Ultimately, it was Rimas Valeikis of Lithuania who won the season with 4 votes against him, the runner up was Estonian Ranno Rätsep with 6 votes against him and the second runner up was Latvian Kristine Koļadina with 8 votes against her given by the jury.

Latvia is one of the three post-Soviet Baltic states having regained independence in 1991 and since 2004 is a member State of the European Union. After its independence there have been fundamental changes of political, economic and social nature that have turned Latvia into a democratic country with a free market economy. This reflects on the mass media landscape which is considered well-developed despite being subjected to a limited market and a linguistic and cultural split between Latvian (58.2%) and Russian speakers (37.5%). In 2017 Freedom House defined Latvia's press freedom status as “free", assigning to the country's press freedom a score of 26/100. The 2017 World Press Freedom Index prepared annually by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) states that media in Latvia have a "two-speed freedom", underlying different levels of freedom for Latvian-language and Russian-language media. According to RSF's Index the country is ranked 28th among 180 countries.

These two contestants were soon joined by Douwe Popma, who had been voted out immediately after a challenge. In episode 4, the two original teams were dismantled and the remaining players were mixed up into new tribes known as the North and South teams. With these new tribes, all who had previously been living on the Secret island joined one of the two new tribes in the game and Nicole Hendriks, who had been eliminated in the previous episode, re-entered the game as a replacement for the large number of contestants who had left the game.
