Bangalore Central is one of the 28 Lok Sabha constituencies in Karnataka state in southern India. This constituency was created in 2008 as part of delimitation. [2] It was carved out of the Bangalore North and South Lok Sabha constituencies during 2009 Indian elections. [3] It first held elections in 2009 and its first member of parliament (MP) was P. C. Demographics

The Central Lok Sabha constituency is dominated by minority voters, and is challenge for candidates, with having to get the support of both linguistic and religious minorities. The constituency has around 5.5 lakh Tamil People, 4.5 lakh Muslims and about 2 lakh Christians. There is also a significant number of Marwaris and Gujaratis, especially around Chickpet and Gandhinagar suburbs. The Tamil population is concentrated around the suburbs of Shivajinagar, Ulsoor, Gandhinagar, Seshadripuram and are a deciding factor for the winning candidate. Further, the demography of the constituency ranges from rich to middle class to slums. [3] [4] [5]

It first held elections in 2009 and its first member of parliament was D. V. Sadananda Gowda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gowda was selected on 4 August 2011 to become Chief Minister (CM) of Karnataka after the previous CM B. S. Yeddyurappa resigned. He therefore had to resign as MP for this seat which forced a by-election in 2012. This by-election was won by K. Jayaprakash Hegde of the Indian National Congress (INC). As of the latest elections in 2019, Shobha Karandlaje of the BJP represents this constituency.

P. Chikkamuni Mohan is an Indian politician and member of the 17th Lok Sabha from Bangalore Central constituency. He is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He is a Member of the Parliamentary Committees on External Affairs and Urban Development. Member of BJP for more than two decades, he served as the party's Treasurer and President of the state's OBC wing.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Karnataka Tamils</span>

The Karnataka Tamils are a social community of Tamil language speakers living in Bangalore, capital city of the Indian state of Karnataka and Mysore, Mandya, Kolar Gold Fields, Chamrajnagar, and other districts of old Mysore Kingdom. According to The Hindu newspaper, Tamil-speaking settlers migrated to Bangalore in four major waves, the first after the 10th century; the second during the Vijayanagara period; and the third, in the 18th century, after the need for government service required by British East India Company who built the train tracks in Bangalore. Lastly now most Tamilians move to Bangalore for work. However some may say both kannadiga and Tamil were there from the first. According to census 1991, people speaking Tamil as mother tongue in Bangalore formed about 21%. There are 2.1 million Tamils living in Karnataka as of 2011 Census report.

Rizwan Arshad is an Indian politician serving the Indian National Congress from the southern state of India, Karnataka. He became an MLA for the first time in December 2019 after winning the bypolls from Shivajinagar Assembly. He was the Congress candidate for Bangalore Central constituency in the 2014 Lok Sabha election, where he lost against BJP's P. C. Mohan. Five years later, he was the Congress-JDS joint candidate for Bangalore Central constituency in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, where he again lost the parliamentary election to BJP's P. C. Mohan.
