Waterville is a city in Kennebec County,Maine,United States,on the west bank of the Kennebec River. The city is home to Colby College and Thomas College. As of the 2020 census the population was 15,828. Along with Augusta,Waterville is one of the principal cities of the Augusta-Waterville,ME Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Colby College is a private liberal arts college in Waterville,Maine. It was founded in 1813 as the Maine Literary and Theological Institution,then renamed Waterville College after the city where it resides. The donations of Christian philanthropist Gardner Colby saw the institution renamed again to Colby University before settling on its current title,reflecting its liberal arts college curriculum. Approximately 2,000 students from more than 60 countries are enrolled annually. The college offers 54 major fields of study and 30 minors.

Justin Loring Alfond is an American politician and real estate developer. He served as a Democratic State Senator from the 8th District,which represents much of Portland. Alfond was first elected to the State Senate in 2008 to replace Democrat Ethan Strimling;he beat former State Senator Anne Rand and Cliff Ginn. He was re-elected in 2010 and 2012. In 2012,he faced Green Independent Party Chair Asher Platts. Alfond won with 71% of the vote in a two-way race.

Holder of a master's degree and PhD in philosophy,she taught at Southeastern Massachusetts University for 17 years before becoming Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Northern Colorado in 1984. From 1984 to 1987 she was Dean of Plymouth State College in New Hampshire. She then served as 13th President of the University of Maine at Farmington from 1994 to 2012,and Interim President of the University of Southern Maine from 2012 to 2014. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 2002.
Robert 'Bob' A. Marden is an American politician and attorney from Maine. Marden,a Republican,served two terms in the Maine Senate,representing part of Kennebec County,including his residence in Waterville,Maine.
Kennebec Valley Consolidated Schools or Alternative Organizational Structure 92 was a school district with the superintendent based in Waterville,Maine and with another office in Winslow,Maine. The district served Waterville,Winslow,and Vassalboro.
Sharon H. Abrams is an American nonprofit executive. She was the executive director of the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers,a nonprofit agency in Waterville,Maine,from 1992 to 2015. She began working at the Home as a teacher in 1973 and was subsequently promoted to program head,assistant executive director,and executive director. Since retiring from the latter position,she continues to work at the Home as a volunteer and social worker. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 2004.
Maine Children's Home (MCH) is a nonprofit agency in Waterville,Maine,that provides education,counseling,adoption,day care,and early childhood education services for pregnant teens and teen parents. Founded as an orphanage in 1899 and incorporated as the Maine Children's Home Society in 1901,it began dealing solely with adoptions in 1915. It merged with the Maine branch of The Home for Little Wanderers of Massachusetts in 1962,creating the Maine Children's Home for Little Wanderers. In 1973 it introduced an "alternative" high school program for pregnant teens and teen parents.
Laurie Gagnon Lachance is an American economist and college administrator. Since 2012,she has been the president of Thomas College in Waterville,Maine,and is the first woman to fill that post. She was previously the first woman Maine State Economist and the first woman president of the Maine Development Foundation. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 2014.
Marti Stevens was an American educator and theater director. Born in Chicago,she spent 10 years as a professional director and actress on off-Broadway stages in New York City before relocating to the rural community of Cornville,Maine. There she developed adult education and literacy programs for high-school dropouts,teen parents,the disabled,prison inmates,and seniors. She also taught composition at the university level. She created and directed an amateur theatre group,the Cornville Players,from 1974 to 1993,and founded an improvisational theatre group called Teens 'N Theater for high school students. She was posthumously inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 1996.
Peter Alfond was an American billionaire,investor,and philanthropist.
Karen Heck is an American community activist,women's rights activist,non-profit administrator,and politician. She was Mayor of Waterville,Maine from 2012 to 2014. She was inducted into the Maine Women's Hall of Fame in 2008.
The COVID-19 pandemic was publicly reported to have reached the U.S. state of Maine on March 12,2020. As of February 2,2021,the Maine Department of Health and Human Services reported 131,530 confirmed cases and 46,971 probable cases in the state,with 1,777 deaths attributed to the virus.
