The Beaumont Hotel is a Grade II listed luxury hotel in Mayfair, London, United Kingdom. One of its rooms was designed by Antony Gormley as a public sculpture.
It has 101 rooms, including 28 studios and suites, and opened in September 2014. [1] The hotel is also home to The Colony Grill, a New-York style grill room, The Gatsby Room, an all day dining area that serves Afternoon Tea, and Le Magritte Bar. It also has three private dining rooms and a spa and a hammam.
The hotel is particularly renowned for its art collection, with artwork from Matisse, Braque, Magritte, Munnings, Turner, and more.
The hotel underwent an expansion that was completed in 2024, seeing a new wing added to the hotel, including 28 new bedrooms and two new private dining rooms.
In March 2025, it was announced that chef Lisa Goodwin-Allen was appointed as Culinary Director for the hotel, and the hotel announced plans to shut down The Colony Grill, reopening as Rosi in September 2025.
The hotel is located at 8 Balderton Street, Mayfair, overlooking Brown Hart Gardens.
The building was erected as a garage [2] in 1925–1926 by the architects Wimperis and Simpson on behalf of Macy's Ltd. [1] [3] Historic England note that "the façade is remarkably ambitious for a car park of this date", as well as "its importance in the evolution of the multi-storey car park as a distinctive C20 building type". [3] From 1932 to the late 1980s, the building was used by Dagenham Motors Ltd, before being used in the 1990s 2000s by Avis Rent-A-Car.
The building was Grade II listed by Historic England in 2009. [3]
When building the hotel, the local council necessitated that a piece of public art would need to be created, and Antony Gormley's help was enlisted to create a piece that could be incorporated into the structure. Gormley designed a room as a public sculpture as part of the hotel, named 'ROOM'. [2] [4] ROOM became the only inhabitable sculpture in the world and is renowned for its unique experience.
The hotel opened in September 2014 and was owner Corbin & King's first hotel. The hotel originally opened with 50 rooms and 23 suites.
In September 2018, The Beaumont was bought by a private investor, who announced plans to expand the hotel. The Office of Thierry Despont was commissioned for the project, and worked alongside Reardon Smith Architects to carry out the project. The first phrase of the project was completed in 2021, with the public areas redesigned, Le Magritte Bar relocated, and the addition of 'The Terrace', an alfresco dining area, on the forecourt. Le Magritte's previous space reopened as The Gatsby Room, an all day dining spot and Afternoon Tea room.
The second phase was completed in March 2024, and saw the hotel expand, opening a new wing with 29 new bedrooms & suites, and the addition of two dining rooms. The building next to the hotel, which was formerly the U.S Office of Global Naval Research, was acquired by the owners in order to achieve the expansion.
