The hotel is in Knightsbridge, near The Knightsbridge Apartments, One Hyde Park and 10 Lancelot Place. [2] It is close to Harrods and Hyde Park. [3] When completed, it was the first 5-star hotel to be built in prime Central London in over 30 years.

History

The hotel was built by Sir Robert McAlpine from 2010 to 2012, [4] in place of the former Normandie Hotel. [5] It was dedicated in May 2012. [2] [6] It was designed by Antonio Citterio, Patricia Viel & Partners. [2] It was built with Portland stones. [2] There are ten floors up and six underground floors.[ citation needed ]

There are 85 rooms and suites. [2] [3] All the rooms are designed in the same manner. [7] The main thematic design is silver. [6] The ballroom, which has a silver chandelier, can be rented for wedding receptions. [8] It is "eco-friendly"; for example, the rainwater is recycled for the toilets. [9] There is also a garden on the roof, or "green roof", [6] with bat boxes. [9]

In 2013, it signed a two-year contract with the Royal Albert Hall to be referred to visitors as its preferred luxury hotel. [10]

In 2017, Bulgari London Hotel Private Screening Room was named as one of the top private screening rooms in London by Ikon London Magazine. [11]

It is owned by Marriott International, Inc.

Penthouse apartment Unit on the top floor of a building

A penthouse is an apartment or unit on the highest floor of an apartment building, condominium, hotel or tower. Penthouses are typically differentiated from other apartments by luxury features. The term 'penthouse' originally referred, and sometimes still does refer, to a separate smaller 'house' that was constructed on the roof of an apartment building. Architecturally it refers specifically to a structure on the roof of a building that is set back from its outer walls. These structures do not have to occupy the entire roof deck. Recently, luxury high rise apartment buildings have begun to designate multiple units on the entire top residential floor or multiple higher residential floors including the top floor as penthouse apartments, and outfit them to include ultra-luxury fixtures, finishes, and designs which are different from all other residential floors of the building. These penthouse apartments are not typically set back from the building’s outer walls, but are instead flush with the rest of the building and simply differ in size, luxury, and consequently price. High-rise buildings can also have structures known as mechanical penthouses that enclose machinery or equipment such as the drum mechanisms for an elevator.
