Benjamin Turland (born 13 July 1998) is an Australian actor and dancer. Turland won the grand final of the revived Young Talent Time series with his dance group Lil' Banditz Krew, before going onto the semi-final of Australia's Got Talent . He later appeared as a dancer on The X Factor Australia and The Voice Australia . In 2014, he made a guest appearance in the drama series Love Child and played Jordan Walsh in Home and Away during 2016. From 2019 until 2022, Turland portrayed Hendrix Greyson in fellow Australian soap opera Neighbours . He also appeared in the spin-off Erinsborough High , and was nominated for Best Daytime Star at the Inside Soap Awards. After leaving Neighbours, Turland appeared in the television miniseries Riptide as Ethan Weston. He filmed a role in the 2023 thriller 13 Summers and joined the supporting cast of Paper Dolls. The Casting Guild of Australia named Turland as one of its 12 Rising Stars of 2023.

Early life

Turland grew up in Mittagong and Bowral in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales. [2] [3] He has an older brother and sister. [3] Turland began dancing when he was three years old, and experienced some bullying as he was the only male dancer in his town. [3] He attended Bowral High School, where he became interested in acting. [2] [4] He later studied performing arts. [4]

Career

In 2012, Turland appeared on the revival of Young Talent Time with the all boys dance group Lil' Banditz Krew when he 12 years old. [5] The group won the grand final and then toured Australia. [6] Two years later, Turland made it to the semi-final of Australia's Got Talent . He later admitted that his experience with the show made him want to pursue an acting career. [6] He also appeared as a dancer on The X Factor Australia , and he choreographed a tour for the series winner. [7] In 2014, Turland guested in the first season of Nine Network drama Love Child . [4] He joined the recurring cast of soap opera Home and Away as foster child Jordan Walsh in 2016. [4] [8] Turland later appeared on The Voice Australia as a dancer. [7]

Turland appeared as Joey in the 2019 production of Saturday Night Fever at the Sydney Lyric. [3] [9] That same year, he joined the main cast of soap opera Neighbours as teenager Hendrix Greyson, the son of established character Pierce Greyson (Tim Robards). [4] His manager had asked him to send in a self-tape, but did not tell him that he was not what the producers was initially looking for. [10] Turland received an invitation to audition for the role and was flown to Melbourne for a chemistry read with Robards and Jemma Donovan (Harlow Robinson). Three days later, Turland was informed that he had the role. [10] Hendrix was described as an entitled brat with a "bad attitude". [4] Turland also appears as Hendrix in the online spin-off Erinsborough High . [11] In 2022, Turland received a nomination for Best Daytime Star at the Inside Soap Awards. [12]

Turland quit Neighbours in 2021 in order to pursue new roles and work overseas. [13] His decision came just months before the show was cancelled in early 2022. [13] Producers chose to kill his character off, and Hendrix dies after a failed lung transplant. [14] Turland described his last few weeks on set as "intense" and he was left exhausted. [13] Turland briefly appears as Hendrix in the serial's then-final episode broadcast on 28 July 2022. [15] After leaving Neighbours, Turland filmed the television miniseries Riptide . [16] He plays Ethan Weston, whose father dies in mysterious circumstances. It was filmed in five weeks at the Neighbours studios, Mount Eliza and the Dandenong Ranges. [16] Turland said his "troubled" character needs "validation and love" from his father, adding "I think it's a good way to tell stories, especially for young men who don't know how to process their emotions." [16]

Turland filmed a role in Jeremy Stanford's thriller film 13 Summers, which was shot in Hervey Bay in late 2022. Turland plays a "mysterious backpacker" who encounters the film's protagonists Ben (Nathan Phillips) and Vee (Hannah Levien). [17] He joined the supporting cast of the Network 10/Paramount+ series Paper Dolls as Eli in March 2023. The drama was filmed in Sydney. [18] [19] The series follows fictional girl group Harlow, who are formed on a reality television show. [18] Turland is also filming a role in Rebel Wilson's directorial debut feature The Deb. Ramsay Street is the fictional cul-de-sac in which the characters of the Australian soap opera Neighbours live. The street is set in the equally fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough. Neighbours storylines primarily centre on the residents of the street, which was named after Jack Ramsay, the grandfather of original character Max Ramsay. A blackjack game between Jack and Sam Robinson determined whom the street would be named after. Only six houses on the street are featured on a regular basis; numbers 22 to 32. Number 34 was featured for the only time in 2018. The cul-de-sac is at the end of a long street and the rest of the houses are on the other side of the main road which bisects it. The street behind Ramsay Street is named Mirrabooka Drive. A storyline within the show saw the name of the street nearly changed to Ramsbottom Street. Harold Bishop led a protest against it and won.

Isabelle "Izzy" Hoyland is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Natalie Bassingthwaighte. She made her first appearance during the episode broadcast on 1 September 2003. Izzy was introduced as Max Hoyland's younger sister. The character departed in 2006, following Bassingthwaighte's decision to focus on her music career. However, in March 2007, Bassingthwaighte made a brief return to film a few episodes set in London. The character was well received by critics and viewers and Bassingthwaighte earned three Logie Award nominations for her role. In October 2017, Bassingthwaighte reprised the role for a guest appearance and she returned on 12 February 2018 until 20 March 2018. She reprised the role again on 21 July 2022 for the serial's then final episodes.

Scott Ian Major is an Australian actor and TV and film director, known for his roles as Peter Rivers in the 1994 television teen drama series Heartbreak High and Lucas Fitzgerald in soap opera Neighbours. After leaving Neighbours in 2013, Major returned to direct over 200 episodes of the serial. He has since gone on to direct episodes of Playing for Keeps, and two miniseries Lie With Me and Riptide. Major reprised his role as Rivers in the 2022 reboot of Heartbreak High.

Christopher Milligan is an Australian actor. From 2008 to 2022, he played Kyle Canning in the television soap opera Neighbours. He initially started out as a recurring cast member, until he was promoted to the regular cast in 2011. He departed the program in 2016 but returned in 2019 until April 2022. He then returned again for the show's final episodes in July 2022. Milligan also played the lead role of David in supernatural fantasy show Dead Gorgeous, and made guest appearances in Rush, The Pacific, Winners & Losers, and Arrow. He appeared in the horror film The Gallows Act II, and reprised his Neighbours role after a three-year absence.

Neighbours is a long-running Australian television soap opera created by television executive Reg Watson. It was first broadcast on the Seven Network on 18 March 1985 and currently airs on digital channel 10 Peach. Since its inception, several spin-offs have been produced, including books, music, DVDs and internet webisodes. Several annuals and books by pulp fiction writer Carl Ruhen were released in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Barry Crocker's version of the theme tune was the first music release from the show, which also has included a Christmas album and the show's love theme. Two potential television spin-offs have reached the pilot stage, while five DVD box sets of Neighbours episodes from the beginning have been released. In 2013, Neighbours launched their first webisode series Steph in Prison. Several other webisode series have since been released. Producers ultimately selected Travis Burns to play Tyler, but created the additional role of Aaron for Wilson. Like Tyler, Aaron was introduced as the brother of established character Mark Brennan. Wilson relocated from Sydney to Melbourne for filming, and debuted four months after Tyler's arrival, on 16 June 2015. Chloe is the sister of the established Brennan brothers, and had often been mentioned on-screen by her family prior to her arrival. Chloe is portrayed as "well-meaning", "carefree" and "fun-loving". Harlow Robinson is a fictional character from the Australian soap opera Neighbours, played by Jemma Donovan. Harlow is introduced as an extension of the Robinson family, the secret daughter of Robert Robinson and the granddaughter of Paul Robinson. Donovan is also the real life daughter of Jason Donovan, who played Harlow's great uncle, Scott. Donovan auditioned for the role after a four-year break from acting and successfully got the role of Harlow, which producers then slightly tweaked to suit her. Donovan's casting announcement was made in March when she began filming, and she debuted on screens on 15 July 2019. Harlow is described as head strong, sensible and clever, and Donovan revealed that she liked her character. Neighbours: Erinsborough High is an Australian streaming television series produced for video on demand and catch up TV services My5 and 10 Play. It was released on 11 November 2019. The series is a spin-off of soap opera Neighbours. Featuring new and regular characters from the main show, the series follows a group of students at Erinsborough High School as they prepare for their final exams, and focuses on the various issues they are facing, as well as the disappearance of one of the students.

The plot focuses on Alison Weston, whose husband Sean mysteriously disappears while surfing. Riptide stars Jo Joyner, Peter O'Brien, Ciarán Griffiths, David Berry, Ben Turland, and Asher Yasbincek. It was filmed in locations across the state of Victoria, including Melbourne and the Network 10 studios in Nunawading in August 2022.

Jemma Donovan is a British-Australian actress. She made her on-screen debut in the BBC television film Mr Stink when she was 12 years old. In 2015, Donovan played Maddy Bastière in the French-American series Spotless. After relocating to Australia, Donovan joined the regular cast of Neighbours as Harlow Robinson. Three members of her family had previously starred in the soap opera, including her father Jason Donovan. She made her debut in July 2019 and also appeared in the spin-off series Neighbours: Erinsborough High. She left the serial in July 2022. Shortly after moving back to the United Kingdom, Donovan secured the role of "party girl" Rayne Royce who died from being pushed in her swimming pool by Romeo Nightingale in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks.
