Bible Belt is the debut studio album by soul singer-songwriter Diane Birch. Its lead single was "Nothing But a Miracle". An acoustic version of the song "Rewind" appears on a season 3 episode of The Vampire Diaries .[ citation needed ]
Birch developed her seventies-style pop music while visiting London and Los Angeles. She recorded Bible Belt in New Orleans and her hometown New York. Several of the songs are autobiographical, such as "Don't Wait Up" which deals with sneaking out from her parents house before changing into Goth dress. [2] "Valentino" is dedicated to her imaginary friend, her muse, from her teenage period when she felt out of time and felt ties to the 18th century. Another song, "Fire Escape", grew out of conversation with a friend, when she learned that the friend's father had recently died. [3] The album has sounds of earlier musical times, with the feel of Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Laura Nyro, and Carly Simon threaded throughout the 13 tracks. Birch employed an orchestra of violins, violas and cellos for "Fire Escape" and "Photograph", under the direction of concert master Sandy Park. [4] She preferred the sound of the Wurlitzer piano because it has a "richness that's hard to replicate on a modern instrument". [5] [6]

In Mojo , Charles Waring described it as "a mighty impressive first album" and claimed she "combines strong vocal melodies with infectious hook lines and delivers them with a soulful fervour." He also compared her with Carole King, Laura Nyro and Phoebe Snow, while acknowledging "there are elements of gospel, doo wop, Americana and Motown ... Birch has got a great voice and the depth of feeling she injects into her performances imbues her songs with a genuine soulfulness. Solidly consistent, the set is packed with memorable moments, including "Fools", "Nothing But a Miracle" and "Mirror Mirror"." [10]

Broken Doll & Odds & Ends is the second studio album by singer-songwriter Anna Nalick, released on June 5, 2011. The original version of "Shine" was released three years earlier on her EP Shine, although it has been re-worked for this album. It was intended to be the lead for her initially planned second album, but the plans fell through after a dispute with her label. After Nalick separated from her label, she got married and took a two year break from the music industry. In 2010, Nalick announced her return to the music business on her Facebook page. She formed her own independent label, Nyctograph, and released Broken Doll & Odds & Ends. The title track of the album, "Broken Doll", was developed after she found her old Barbie dolls discarded and broken. The song develops this as a theme of once feeling special, but then being left behind. The song was written early in the process, when Nalick was still under contract with Sony Music. One of the themes the album explores is the discomfort Nalick felt at being asked to be somebody different than herself. Initially, the album was intended to be an acoustic album, but Nalick's friends who performed on the album had talent with many instruments, so that she gave them the opportunity to explore a variety of sounds to put on the album, so that various instruments like the sitar, the mandocello, and the glockenspiel ended up on the album.
Takin' It Back is the fifth major-label studio album by American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor. Epic Records released the album on October 21, 2022. Trainor worked with producers including Federico Vindver, Gian Stone, Kid Harpoon, and Tyler Johnson. Featured artists include Scott Hoying, Teddy Swims, Theron Theron, Natti Natasha, and Arturo Sandoval. It is a doo-wop and bubblegum pop album, which Trainor conceived as a return to the sound of her debut major-label studio album, Title (2015), after its title track went viral on TikTok. Takin' It Back's lyrical themes revolve around motherhood and self-acceptance.
