Sitakunda Botanical Garden and Eco Park is a park located in Sitakunda Upazila of Chittagong District in south-eastern Bangladesh. [1]

Contents

History

This is the first eco-park in Bangladesh. It was established in 2001 on 808 hectares. The main purposes of creating such eco parks are storing biodiversity, conservation. [2]

Area and location

The Sitakunda Botanical Garden and Eco Park is located along the Dhaka–Chittagong Highway in Sitakunda Upazila, Sitakunda, Chittagong. The area of Eco Park is about 996 acres (403 ha) which is established at forest side of Chandranath Hills of Sitakunda. [3]

The Sohosdhara Jhorna is a popular attraction there for locals and people who travel there.

Facilities

Presently there are parking lots for Eco Park. Toilet facilities are available for free in three locations. There is a plant nursery selling Bangladeshi and foreign plants.

Muhammad Enam-Ul Haque was a Bangladeshi academician, historian and writer who served as the fourth vice-chancellor of Islamic University, Bangladesh from May 9, 1995, to September 2, 1997. He was also a professor in the Department of Islamic History and Culture at Chittagong University.

Abul Khair Group is a Bangladeshi diversified conglomerate based in Chattogram. Abul Kashem is the chairperson and Abul Hashem is the managing director of Abul Khair Group. Abu Syed Chowdhury is the deputy managing director and Shah Shafiqul Islam is the group director. All four are sons of Abul Khair.
