Bretonne is the fourth studio album by French singer Nolwenn Leroy, with arrangements by Jon Kelly. The album was released December 6, 2010 and has a reissue with 7 additional tracks 28 November 2011. It is a homage to her native Brittany. This is an album dedicated to Breton and Celtic music which marked Nolwenn, mixing traditional songs, modern pop in connection with standards of Celtic music. It includes traditional Breton tunes, more recent songs and an original song signed by the Breton singer Miossec.

Contents

The album was a certified double diamond disc in France, [1] a double platinum disc in Belgium [2] and a gold disc in Switzerland. [3] After its successful release in Germany it was released internationally in July 2012 (UK, Canada, Japan). Its release in the United States was accompanied by a concert in New York City, January 8, 2013.

Tri Martolod or Tri Martolod Yaouank, is a traditional Breton song which dates to the 18th century in Lower Brittany. It was made famous by the interpretation, the arrangement and the recordings made by the Breton harpist Alan Stivell, in the 1970s.

Suite Sud-Armoricaine is a bawdy Breton song in Breton, popularized by Alan Stivell in the 1970s. It is the only song in Breton ever to make the number one chart spot on French radio Europe 1. The lyrics are from the Pardon Speied date from 1950s and they are in the public domain because the author is unknown. The song is originally a traditional Breton musical air.

La Jument de Michao or Le Loup, le Renard et la Belette is a recent (1973) Breton adaptation of two different Western French traditional songs, also found in Brittany, the original one may be a medieval French song of Burgundy origin: J'ai vu le loup, le renard, le lièvre. The integration in the Breton patrimony was made under the shape of a song deduct typical of Upper Brittany, but in other French regions too. The music dances on the rhythm of the An dro (Gwened), one of the most known Breton round dances.
