Brothers Union cricket team is a Bangladeshi cricket team that plays List A cricket in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. It is affiliated with the Brothers Union football team. It is one of the oldest extant cricket clubs in Bangladesh, having competed since 1973, when it was one of the clubs that competed in the Dacca Metropolis Knockout Tournament. [1]

List A record

The List A captains have changed from season to season. In 2023–24 the captain was Monir Hossain.

In their last match of the 2017–18 season, Brothers Union needed to score 335 runs to beat Agrani Bank and avoid relegation. At the end, they needed four off the last ball of the 50th over, and Nazmus Sadat hit a boundary to secure victory by four wickets. [2]

The highest score is 150 not out by Nafees Iqbal in 2013–14, and the best bowling figures are 7 for 25 by Sean Williams, also in 2013–14.

The history of cricket in Bangladesh predates the foundation of the Bangladeshi state in 1971 by nearly two centuries. Cricket was introduced to Bengal by the British in the eighteenth century but its growth in East Bengal was slow. Following Partition and the creation of East Pakistan, both first-class and Test cricket were played there during the 1950s and 1960s. Although cricket continued to be popular after independence, especially in Dhaka, the country lost first-class status and had to establish itself in international competition as an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Cricket is the most popular dry season sport in Bangladesh. It is played nationwide through the months of November to May. Governance of the sport is the responsibility of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), which was established in 1972.

The 2014 Women's World Twenty20 was the fourth Women's World Twenty20 competition, taking place in Bangladesh from 23 March to 6 April 2014. The tournament was played in the cities of Sylhet and Dhaka – Cox's Bazar was originally intended to also host matches, but the venue was not available due to ongoing development. The tournament featured 10 teams, rather than the eight at previous tournaments, with all matches in the tournament accorded women's Twenty20 International (T20I) status. Bangladesh and Ireland made their first appearances at the event, which was run concurrently with the men's tournament. Australia won the tournament, beating England in the final by six wickets.

The Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, also known as the Dhaka Premier League, is a club List A tournament in Bangladesh which has been contested annually since the 1973–74 season. It has had List A status since the 2013–14 season. It is run by the Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis.

Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club is a Bangladeshi cricket team that has played List A cricket in the Dhaka Premier League and Twenty20 cricket in the Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League.

Prime Bank Cricket Club, owned by Prime Bank Limited, plays List A cricket in the Dhaka Premier Division in Bangladesh. It won the tournament in 2014–15. The club also participated in the 2013–14 Victory Day T20 Cup and was crowned the champions.

Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club is a Bangladeshi cricket team that plays List A cricket in the Dhaka Premier League and Twenty20 cricket in the Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League. It is affiliated with Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club football team.

The 2017–18 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League was an edition of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a List A cricket competition held in Bangladesh. It was the fifth edition of the tournament with List A status, although almost 35 seasons had been played before achieving the status. It started on 5 February 2018 and finished on 5 April 2018. Gazi Group Cricketers were the defending champions. Abahani Limited won the tournament, after beating Legends of Rupganj by 94 runs in the final Super League fixture.

Agrani Bank Cricket Club is a cricket team in Bangladesh. They were one of the twelve teams that took part in the 2017–18 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League tournament. They were relegated after one season, but returned to the league for the 2022–23 competition.

The 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League was an edition of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League, a List A cricket competition that was held in Bangladesh. It was the sixth edition of the tournament with List A status, although almost 35 seasons have been played before achieving the status. It started on 8 March, and concluded on 23 April 2019. Directly before the List A tournament started, the inaugural edition of the 2018–19 Dhaka Premier Division Twenty20 Cricket League took place, featuring the same twelve teams.

City Club are a Bangladeshi cricket team that has played List A cricket in the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League. They are based in Mirpur.
