Brunei and Singapore established diplomatic relations in 1984. Brunei has a high commission in Singapore, and Singapore has a high commission in Bandar Seri Begawan. [2] Brunei and Singapore have close and friendly relations with extensive defence co-operation. [3] [2] [4] Both countries are members of ASEAN and Commonwealth of Nations.
The official relations between the two countries were established in 1984. [3] [2] In 2012, His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah attended the 3rd Singapore Airshow and met the then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, while Teo Chee Hean visited Brunei the same year. [2]
Several memorandum of understanding have been signed and there is a Currency Interchangeability Agreement between the two countries which makes both Brunei dollar and Singapore dollar banknotes and coins legal tender in either country. [2] [5]
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) has trained many Bruneian soldiers for a period of time. [4] [6] As compensation, Brunei granted the Singapore Armed Forces to build a permanent jungle training camp in Temburong, named Lakiun Camp and officially opened in 1977. [7] [8] Brunei and Singapore began Exercise Airguard in 1994, which involves joint training between the Royal Brunei Air Force and the Republic of Singapore Air Force, with the states alternating as hosts. The Republic of Singapore Navy also hosts exercises with Royal Brunei Navy every year named Exercise Pelican. Besides, the Singapore Police Force also deployed to Brunei to conduct Exercise Solar Wind. This exercise was jointly conducted by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF), supported by HTX (Home Team Science and Technology Agency). Some highly trained police officers from both forces continue to sharpen their post-blast investigation skills and hone their working relationship with their foreign counterparts. The joint training exercise is also an important platform for SPF to reinforce our strong training ties and relationship with the Royal Bruneian Police Force. [9] The exercises usually involve around 70 personnel from both nations. [9]
The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) are the military of the Republic of Singapore, responsible for protecting and defending the security interests and the sovereignty of the country. A component of the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF), the armed forces have four service branches: the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Digital and Intelligence Service. An integrated force, it is one of the most capable, robust, technologically sophisticated and powerful militaries in the Southeast Asia region. The SAF is headed by the chief of defence force, appointed by the President, on the advice of the Cabinet.
Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni Hassanal Bolkiah is the eldest son of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his wife Queen Saleha. He is the Crown Prince of Brunei Darussalam, and is first in the line of succession to the Bruneian throne. The Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), natively known as Tentera Laut Diraja Brunei (TLDB) is the naval force of Brunei. It is a small but relatively well-equipped military force whose main responsibility is to conduct search and rescue missions, and to deter and defend the Brunei waters against attack mounted by seaborne forces.
The Gurkha Contingent (GC) is a line department of the Singapore Police Force (SPF) consisting primarily of Gurkhas from Nepal, who are meticulously recruited by the British Army with the purview of the Government of Singapore. The contingent's roles are as a special guard force and counter-terrorist force.
The Singapore Armed Forces Band form the musical arm of the Singapore Armed Forces. Consisting of the flagship SAF Central Band and the SAF Ceremonial Band, the SAF Band provides musical support for key events such as the National Day Parade, SAF Day Parade, Passing Out Parades, Change of Command Parades and other military duties. Other than discharging ceremonial duties, the SAF Band also presents public concerts that aim to bring a wide range of music to the populace. They also seek to build up the band's music repertoire into an extensive array of styles and variety.
The Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), natively known as Tentera Darat Diraja Brunei (TDDB) is the land component of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) or Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (ABDB). The RBLF has responsibility for maintaining the territorial defence of Brunei Darussalam, both from attack from outsiders, and by assisting the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) in maintaining law and order. The annual anniversary ceremony of RBLF's inception was place on 4 November every year.
The Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF) is the military of the sultanate nation of Brunei Darussalam. In addition to the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Brunei also hosts bases for the British Army and the Singapore Armed Forces.
The Ministry of Interior and Defence (MID) was a ministry of the Government of Singapore. It was established in 1965, with Goh Keng Swee as the inaugural minister. The ministry was responsible for both internal and external security, controlling both the police force and the armed forces.
The Special Operations Task Force is a special operations command of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) responsible for conducting special operations. The SOTF is composed of only highly-trained regular servicemen from the Army's Special Operations Force (SOF) under the Commandos formation and, the Navy's Special Warfare Group (SWG) under the Naval Diving Unit (NDU).
Pakistan–Singapore relations refer to bilateral relations between Pakistan and Singapore. Singapore maintains a consulate general in Karachi, Pakistan, and Pakistan has a High Commission in Singapore. Both countries are members of the Commonwealth of Nations.
The diplomatic relationship between Pakistan and Brunei is very warm and friendly, primarily because both are Muslim countries and members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. As the two countries are fellow members of the Commonwealth, Pakistan maintains a High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan, and Brunei has a High Commission in Islamabad. To further foster ties between the two countries, the Brunei-Pakistan Friendship Association (BPFA) was created in 2008.
Germany–Singapore relations refer to the bilateral relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Singapore.
Brunei and Cambodia established diplomatic relations in 1992. Brunei has an embassy in Phnom Penh, and Cambodia has an embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan. Both countries co-operate in trade, education and defence. Both countries are members of ASEAN.

The Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland have formal diplomatic relations. Brunei has a High Commission in London, and United Kingdom has a High Commission in Bandar Seri Begawan. Both countries are members of the Commonwealth and share history and have a friendly and strong relationship, dating back to the 19th century - which includes very strong friendships between both countries' monarchs and royal families.
Brunei and New Zealand established diplomatic relations in 1984. Brunei high commission in Bandar Seri Begawan is accredited to New Zealand, while New Zealand high commission in Kuala Lumpur is accredited to Brunei.
Netherlands–Singapore relations refers to the bilateral relations between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Republic of Singapore. Upon Singapore's declaration of independence in August 1965, the Netherlands recognized Singapore as a sovereign state and established diplomatic relations with it, becoming one of the first European countries to do so. The Netherlands maintains its embassy in Singapore, while Singapore is represented in the Netherlands through its embassy in Brussels, Belgium.
Halbi bin Haji Mohammad Yussof is a Bruneian aristocrat, politician and retired military office who is the incumbent Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and Minister of Defence II. He is a former member of the Legislative Council of Brunei, and previously served as the Minister of Defence II from 2018 to 2022, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports from 2015 to 2018, Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), and Commander of the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF).
KDB Darulehsan (07) is the second ship of the Darussalam class offshore patrol vessels in the sultanate of Brunei Darussalam. The vessel is in active service in the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN).
The Joint Force Headquarters of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Markas Angkatan Bersama Angkatan Tentera Diraja Brunei, is a combined military command that was established expressly to oversee all joint operations activities of the service branches of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces. At least three services, including the Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF), Royal Brunei Navy (RBN), and Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF), participate in joint operations.
