San Jose del Monte, officially the City of San Jose del Monte, is a 1st class component city in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 651,813 people, making it the largest local government unit within the province of Bulacan and Central Luzon, and the 18th most populated city in the Philippines.
The Philippines is divided into four levels of administrative divisions, with the lower three being defined in the Local Government Code of 1991 as local government units (LGUs). They are, from the highest to the lowest:
- Regions are mostly used to organize national services. Of the 17 regions, only one—the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao—has an elected government to which the central government has devolved competencies.
- Provinces, independent cities, and one independent municipality (Pateros)
- Component cities and municipalities within a province
- Barangays within a city or municipality
The legislative districts of San Jose del Monte are the representations of the component city of San Jose del Monte in the Congress of the Philippines. The city is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress through its lone congressional district.
The legislative districts of Bulacan are the representations of the province of Bulacan in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. The province is currently represented in the lower house of the Congress of the Philippines through its first, second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth congressional districts.
Local elections were held in the province of Bulacan on May 10, 2010, as part of the 2010 general election. Voters selected candidates for all local positions: a town mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the vice-governor, governor and representatives for the four districts of Bulacan.
Batangas's 1st congressional district is one of the six congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Batangas. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of the western Batangas municipalities of Balayan, Calatagan, Lemery, Lian, Nasugbu, Taal and Tuy and the component city of Calaca. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Eric Buhain of the Nacionalista Party (NP).
Laguna's 1st congressional district is one of the six congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Laguna, formerly La Laguna. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district currently consists the northwestern city of San Pedro. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Ann Matibag of Lakas–CMD.
Bulacan's 1st congressional district is one of the seven congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Bulacan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of the provincial capital city of Malolos and adjacent municipalities of Bulakan, Calumpit, Hagonoy, Paombong and Pulilan. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Danilo A. Domingo of the National Unity Party (NUP).
Bulacan's 2nd congressional district is one of the seven congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Bulacan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of the city of Baliwag and the municipalities of Bustos and Plaridel. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Tina Pancho of the National Unity Party (NUP).
Batangas's 3rd congressional district is one of the six congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Batangas. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1916 and earlier in the Philippine Assembly from 1907 to 1916. The district consists of the northern Batangas cities of Santo Tomas and Tanauan, as well as adjacent municipalities surrounding the Taal Lake: Agoncillo, Alitagtag, Balete, Cuenca, Laurel, Malvar, Mataasnakahoy, San Nicolas, Santa Teresita and Talisay, a configuration that has been in place since 1987. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Ma. Theresa V. Collantes of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC).
Batangas's 4th congressional district is one of the six congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Batangas. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 1987. The district consists of the eastern Batangas municipalities of Ibaan, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Jose, San Juan, and Taysan. The city of Lipa was also part of this district until it was granted its own representation as the sixth district effective 2016. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Lianda B. Bolilia of the Nacionalista Party (NP).
Bataan's 2nd congressional district is one of the three congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Bataan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 1987. The district consists of the provincial capital Balanga and adjacent southern Bataan municipalities of Limay, Orion and Pilar facing Bulacan and Pampanga, as well as the province of Cavite, Corregidor Island, and the Manila Bay. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Albert Garcia of the National Unity Party (NUP).
Bulacan's 3rd congressional district is one of the seven congressional districts in the province of Bulacan, Philippines. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 1987. The district consists of municipalities in northern and eastern Bulacan, namely Doña Remedios Trinidad, San Ildefonso, San Miguel, and San Rafael. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Lorna Silverio of the National Unity Party (NUP).
San Jose del Monte's at-large congressional district is the sole congressional district of the Philippines in the city of San Jose del Monte and one of seven in the province of Bulacan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 2004. San Jose del Monte first elected a single representative city-wide at-large for the 13th Congress following the passage of Republic Act No. 9230 in 2003 which amended the 2000 San Jose del Monte City Charter. Before 2004, the city was represented in the nation's lower house as part of Bulacan's 4th, Bulacan's 2nd and Region III's at-large districts. It is currently represented in the 18th Congress by Florida P. Robes of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) and Arangkada San Joseño (AR).
Isabela's 1st congressional district is one of the six congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Isabela. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 1987. The district consists of the capital city of Ilagan and the northern municipalities of Cabagan, Delfin Albano, Divilacan, Maconacon, San Pablo, Santa Maria, Santo Tomas and Tumauini. The municipality of Palanan was part of this district until it was redistricted to the 2nd district, effective in 2019. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Antonio T. Albano of the Lakas–CMD.
Surigao del Norte's 1st congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Surigao del Norte. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 1987. The district encompasses the island chains off the northeast coast of mainland Surigao del Norte. Since the 2007 redistricting following the separation of Dinagat Islands, the district now comprises the Siargao and Bucas Grande municipalities of Burgos, Dapa, Del Carmen, General Luna, Pilar, San Benito, San Isidro, Santa Monica and Socorro. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Francisco Jose Matugas II of the Lakas-CMD.
Davao del Norte's 1st congressional district is one of the two congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Davao del Norte. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 1987. The district covers the northern and eastern parts of the province including its capital, Tagum, and the municipalities of Asuncion, Kapalong, New Corella, San Isidro and Talaingod. Prior to redistricting in 1998, the district covered much of the Compostela Valley in what is now the province of Davao de Oro. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Pantaleon Alvarez of the Partido para sa Demokratikong Reporma (Reporma).
Bulacan's 5th congressional district is one of the seven congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Bulacan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 2022. The district consists of municipalities in central Bulacan, namely Balagtas, Bocaue, Guiguinto, and Pandi and does not have any provincial boundaries. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Ambrosio Cruz Jr. of the Lakas-CMD, who is its first representative since its creation.
Bulacan's 6th congressional district is one of the seven congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Bulacan. It has been represented in the House of Representatives since 2022. The district consists of municipalities in southcentral and eastern Bulacan, namely Angat, Norzagaray, and Santa Maria. It is currently represented in the 19th Congress by Salvador A. Pleyto of the Lakas-CMD.
A plebiscite was held in the province of Bulacan, Philippines, on October 30, 2023, with the purpose of determining if San Jose del Monte should be converted into a highly urbanized city. If carried, San Jose del Monte will be politically, fiscally, and administratively independent from Bulacan; if rejected, the city will remain a component city of Bulacan.
