The Buriram Marathon is held every February at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, northeastern Thailand. Its title sponsor is Chang Beer. The marathon events are regularly attended by elite runners from Thailand, Laos, Ethiopia, Kenya, and other countries.

History

The Buriram Marathon was founded by Newin Chidchob, the President of Buriram United and Executive of Chang International Circuit. [1]

The inaugural event was launched in 2017. [2] More than 24,000 runners participated in the 3rd Buriram Marathon in 2019, which was marked by much higher than usual humidity and temperatures. [2]

Buriram United Football Club is a Thai professional football club based in Buriram. The club has played at the top level of Thai football for the majority of their existence and is competing in the Thai League 1. The club was founded in 1970 as PEA FC before being reformed as Buriram PEA and Buriram United in 2010 and 2012 respectively. Their home stadium is Chang Arena, which has a capacity of 32,600.

The Thailand motorcycle Grand Prix is a motorcycle Grand Prix event that started in 2018. The race is hosted at Chang International Circuit near Buriram in Buriram province. In 2020 and 2021, the race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event is due to take place at the Buriram International Circuit until at least 2026.

Brigid Jepchirchir Kosgei is a Kenyan long-distance runner who specialises in the marathon. She won the 2018 and 2019 Chicago Marathons, the 2019 and 2020 London Marathons and the 2021 Tokyo Marathon. Kosgei was the marathon world record holder for women running in a mixed-sex race, with a time of 2:14:04 achieved on 13 October 2019 at the Chicago Marathon. The Bangsaen21 Half Marathon is an annual half marathon held in Bang Saen, Chonburi Province, Thailand. It is an IAAF Bronze Label race. It is currently the only half marathon in Thailand with the IAAF Bronze Label. The race is organized by MICE & Communication, a Bangkok-based event management company.

The Traralgon Marathon is an annual marathon road running event held in Traralgon, Victoria, Australia. It has been held every year since 1968, and is the "oldest continuously run marathon in Australia" as of 2020. The race is organised by the Traralgon Harriers Athletic Club.

Big's Backyard Ultra is the original backyard ultra, invented by Gary "Lazarus Lake" Cantrell of Bell Buckle, Tennessee. Participants run a 4.167-mile loop every hour, and are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop in an hour. The path of the loop is on trails during the day and along a road after dark. The distance of each loop is equal to 100 divided by 24, so that a competitor runs 100 miles for a full day of competition. There is no predefined finish. The winner is the competitor who completes a loop that no other competitors complete. If no competitor outlasts every other competitor, there is no winner.

The Sofia Marathon is an annual road marathon hosted by Sofia, Bulgaria, since 1983. The marathon is categorized as a Bronze Label Road Race by World Athletics. During race weekend, a half marathon, a 10K race, and a fun run of length 3 km (1.9 mi) are also offered.

The 2021 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships was an inaugural event which combined the World Mountain Running Championships and IAU Trail World Championships. The event was organised by the World Mountain Running Association, International Trail Running Association and International Association of Ultrarunners sanctioned by World Athletics. It was held in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from November 4–6, 2022.
