CKYY-FM (89.1 MHz) is a commercial radio station in Welland, Ontario, Canada, serving the Niagara Region. It is owned My Broadcasting Corporation. It airs a country format and identifies on air as "Niagara's New Country 89.1". The studios and offices for CKYY-FM and sister station CIXL-FM are on Forks Road on the Port Colborne - Welland border.

CKYY-FM has an effective radiated power (ERP) of 564 watts average, with a peak of 3,100 watts. The tower has a height above average terrain (HAAT) of 130.5 meters (428 ft). [1] CKYY-FM uses a directional antenna to avoid its signal from interfering with stations in the U.S. The transmitter is located on Matthews Road in Welland .

History

The station's founders received approval from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) on June 26, 2014, to construct a new English-language commercial FM station. [2] [3] The station signed on the air on February 20, 2015. [4]

On May 10, 2019, Stingray Group announced its intention to purchase R.B. Communications' two stations in Welland. [5] The sale fell through in early 2020. In 2022, Wellport announced a new deal to sell CIXL and CKYY to My Broadcasting Corporation. [6]

On September 20, 2022, the CRTC approved the change of ownership from R.B. Communications Ltd. to My Broadcasting Corporation. [7]

CJML-FM is a radio station in Milton, Ontario broadcasting on 101.3 MHz. Owned by Local Radio Lab Inc., the station covers the immediate Milton area from its transmitter at X. The CRTC first received an application from My Broadcasting Corporation on May 27, 2015. On August 2, 2017, the station was finally able to sign on the air. It also receives co-channel interference east of Milton due to CJSA-FM in Toronto also broadcasting on the same frequency and also CKOT-FM in Tillsonburg. On April 8, 2020 the CRTC approved an application by My Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) to increase the average effective radiated power (ERP) from 228 to 480 watts and by changing the orientation of its directional antenna. CJML-FM will remain at 101.3 MHz.
