CP Class 3100 and CP Class 3200 are two related series of railway multiple units with Iberian gauge, 2'2'+Bo'Bo'+2'2' wheel arrangement. They utilise a 1500 V direct current voltage system. They were first introduced in 1959 in the suburbs of Lisbon. The series was refurbished between 1998 and 2002. Since the renewal, this series has been known as the CP Class 3150 and CP Class 3250.

They are closely based on the SNCF Class BB 15000 locomotive design. The locomotives are part of the Nez Cassé family of locomotives, a popular locomotive style designed by Paul Arzens, designed by Groupement 50Hz and entered service in 1974 and 1987 Of the 12 built, 9 were still in service in 2012. They have a top speed of 160 km/h.

The Série 1500 of the Portuguese Railways were introduced in 1948, making them amongst the first main line diesel locomotives to be used in Europe. These 12 locomotives were built in the United States by ALCO, to the constructor's type RSC-2 specification. The locomotives were purchased with assistance from Marshall Aid funds in an attempt to cut the railway's running costs, modernise the system and help alleviate Portugal's shortage of coal following World War II.

They come in line with the 660 class but their main difference is that the 460 is electric-powered with five coaches while the 660 is diesel-powered by two coaches but they have the same manufacturers and gauge.
