Cabin Crew, also known as Aviators, are an Australian electronic dance music duo, which consists of DJs and record producers, Ben Garden and Rob Kittler (p.k.a. RobKAY). In 2005 their remix, "Star2Fall", of Boy Meets Girl's 1988 single, "Waiting for a Star to Fall", reached the top 5 of the mainstream charts in Finland and United Kingdom.
Cabin Crew were formed in 2000 as Aviators, a club music duo, in Sydney by Ben Garden, a producer-engineer, and Rob Kittler (p.k.a. RobKAY), a DJ-producer. [1] The pair had met in a Canberra secondary school but attended different tertiary institutions. [1] Garden had worked in Sydney on production and composition for TV shows since 1999. Kittler had performed in Sydney and Canberra clubs, alongside other DJs. [1] One of their first singles was "Poison to My Mind (I Keep Movin')" (2002) by Aviators featuring Lady K, which was co-written by Garden and Kittler with Kachina Lewis (p.k.a. Lady K). [1] [2] [3]
In 2003 Gardner started working on sampling, "Waiting for a Star to Fall", a 1988 single by Boy Meets Girl. [1] Kittler remembered, "He just thought of the sample and started to play with it. We did the final mix of it in September '03, and that's pretty much the result of what people are hearing now." [1] Despite difficulties in obtaining clearances for the sample, they heard that United Kingdom group, Sunset Strippers had also sampled the same song. [1] Kittler continued, "we'd been trying to get our version cleared since May '04, then Sunset's version popped up. We had the green light given to us by the publishing company but we never heard back from Sony, who happened to own the master." [1]
In November 2004 Cabin Crew issued a single, "Star to Fall" (later known as "Star2Fall"), which debuted at No. 34 on the ARIA Club Tracks chart. [4] SonyBMG did not clear the sample for international release by the Australian duo. [5] Instead, the label used Sunset Strippers' version. [5] However, when Boy Meets Girl's vocalist and song writer, George Merrill, heard Cabin Crew's remix of the track, he re-recorded the vocals for them, allowing their version to be released, as "Star2Fall", in late February 2005 via Vicious Vinyl. [6] [5] [7] inthemix reporter observed, "The first mix on the single is a full-on vocal assault; it's the 'Radio Mix'. It opens with a huge uplifting male echoed vocal, and a big bassline. The level of cheese here is 11/10; it's definitely cheesier than your average funky house number." [7]
In Australia, Sunset Strippers' and Cabin Crew's singles almost simultaneously entered the ARIA Singles charts in March. [6] [8] "Star2Fall" peaked at No. 4 on the ARIA Club Tracks and reached the top 30 on its mainstream singles chart. [4] [6] Tara Thomas of Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), explained how, "both [groups] sampled the same original song at the same time, despite being on opposite sides of the world. Sony granted the Sunset Strippers the rights to the original and denied Cabin Crew. Then, totally out of the blue Boy Meets Girl re-recorded the vocal for Cabin Crew making it possible for our local boys to release the tune as 'Star2Fall'." [6] In March 2005 the group were signed to Ministry of Sound for international releases. [9] Christie Eliezer of Music & Media described how Vicious Vinyl had released, "a press statement to counteract rumours about the track. It has no issues with uncleared samples, and has the blessing of the song's writers." [9]
On 28 February 2008, Cabin Crew released "Can't Stop It" on CD-Maxi (CDS/CDM), 12" Vinyl (EP), and digital formats under the Vicious Vinyl label. The Mind Electric mix appeared on the various artists album, Vicious Cuts Summer 2008. [10]

Rogue Traders is an Australian electronic rock band formed in Melbourne, Victoria in 2002 by mainstay James Ash on keyboards. In 1989, Ash met fellow original member Steve Davis in London while both were working as DJs. Before forming Rogue Traders, the pair had worked together on many projects, including the dance music act Union State, which relocated to Melbourne in 1992. The group's name comes from the 1999 drama film, Rogue Trader. They were joined in 2004 by soap opera actress, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, on lead vocals, Cameron McGlinchey on drums and Tim Henwood on guitar. Davis continued as a behind-the-scenes member, contributing to the songwriting process but not making any public appearances with the group.
April M. Coates is an Australian singer, songwriter and producer who performs as Cheyne Coates or Cheyne. Coates and Andrew Van Dorsselaer comprised the duo Madison Avenue (1998–2003). Their song "Don't Call Me Baby" peaked at number two on the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Singles Chart in 1999 and topped the charts in New Zealand and the United Kingdom in 2000, as well as the Billboard dance charts the United States. Since the break-up of Madison Avenue in 2003, Cheyne recorded an album, Something Wicked This Way Comes, and its first single "I've Got Your Number" which reached No. 26 in 2004.
"Popcorn" is an instrumental song composed by Gershon Kingsley in 1969 for the album Music to Moog By. It was performed on the Moog synthesizer and released on the Audio Fidelity label. The name is a combination of pop for pop music and corn for kitsch. The song became a worldwide hit in 1972, when it was covered by Hot Butter, an American pop band. Since then, multiple versions of the piece have been produced and released, including those by Vyacheslav Mescherin, Anarchic System, Popcorn Makers, the Boomtang Boys, M & H Band, Crazy Frog, and the Muppets.
1200 Techniques are an Australian hip hop group formed in 1997 in Melbourne, Australia, consisting of DJ Peril as producer, percussionist, DJ; N'fa Forster-Jones as lead vocalist and Kemstar as lead guitarist. Whilst primarily being in the genre of hip hip, they drew influences from other genres including rock, funk, soul, electro, drum and bass, electro jazz and breakbeat. They released their debut studio album, Choose One, in March 2002.
"Waiting for a Star to Fall" is a song by American pop music duo Boy Meets Girl in 1988, written by the duo's members, Shannon Rubicam and George Merrill. They wrote the song after witnessing a falling star at a Whitney Houston concert and originally offered the song to Houston, but Arista Records CEO Clive Davis rejected it. American singer Belinda Carlisle then recorded a demo of the song but refused its inclusion on her 1987 album Heaven on Earth, so Rubicam and Merrill decided to record and release the song themselves.
"Ghetto Gospel" is a song by American rapper Tupac Shakur, which was released as the lead single from his 2004 posthumous album Loyal to the Game. The song was produced by American rapper Eminem and features a sample from Elton John's 1971 song "Indian Sunset".
Boy Meets Girl is an American pop-music duo consisting of keyboardist and vocalist George Merrill and singer Shannon Rubicam. They are perhaps best known for their hit song "Waiting for a Star to Fall" from 1988 and for writing two of Whitney Houston's number one hits: "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody ".
Sunset Strippers were an electronic music group from the UK. They are best-known for their 2005 song "Falling Stars", which samples the 1988 hit song "Waiting for a Star to Fall" by Boy Meets Girl and was involved in a sampling battle with Cabin Crew. "Falling Stars" reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart in March 2005.
"You Sexy Thing" is a song by British soul band Hot Chocolate. It was written by lead singer Errol Brown and bass guitarist Tony Wilson and was produced by Mickie Most. The song was released in October 1975 as the second single from their second album, Hot Chocolate, and reached number two on the UK Singles Chart in November 1975, as well as number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 the following February. Billboard ranked it the number 22 song for 1976. It went on to gain notability by being featured in films, such as The Full Monty (1997).
"Save the Day" is a song by Australian punk rock band The Living End, released in September 1998. It is the first official single taken from the band's self-titled album, following the release of the Second Solution / Prisoner of Society EP the previous year. The song spent 17 weeks in the Australian ARIA Singles Chart, peaking at No. 22, and reached No. 10 on Triple J's Hottest 100 for 1998. The single was later certified gold, selling in excess of 35,000 copies.
Australian singer Dannii Minogue has released five studio albums, eight compilation albums, twenty-eight singles, twenty-three music videos, and five video albums. Minogue rose to prominence in the early 1980s for her roles in the Australian television talent show Young Talent Time and in the soap opera Home and Away, before commencing her career as a pop singer in the early 1990s.
Sneaky Sound System is an Australian dance music group formed in late 2001 by Angus McDonald on guitar, MC Double D on vocoder and vocals, Damien Hesse (DJ) and Nick Broadhurst on saxophone. They were joined in 2004 by Connie Mitchell (ex-Primary) on vocals; Downey left the band in September 2009, Hesse in 2005 and Broadhurst in 2006. On 12 August 2006, they released their self-titled debut studio album, which peaked at No. 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart in mid-November 2007 and was certified 3× platinum by December 2011, denoting shipments of 210,000 copies. The group's breakthrough single, "I Love It", which was issued on 8 July 2006, peaked at No. 24 on the ARIA Singles Chart and spent 73 weeks in the Top 100 – this broke the record as the longest charting single previously held by The Living End's 1997 hit, "Second Solution / Prisoner of Society", at 69 weeks. Their second studio effort, 2, which appeared on 16 August 2008, became their first number-one album. On 7 October 2011, From Here to Anywhere was released and reached at No. 11. At ARIA Music Awards ceremonies they have been nominated fourteen times winning twice in 2007 for Best Dance Release and Breakthrough Artist – Album for their eponymous album.
"It's Too Late" is the lead single by rock band, Evermore, taken from their debut album Dreams. The track was written by the group's three New Zealand-raised brothers: Dann, Jon, and Peter Hume. It was produced by John Alagía and released on 2 August 2004, which reached No. 16 on the ARIA Singles Chart in their adopted country of Australia. The song features on The OC Mix 2 soundtrack as a bonus Australian release only track. It also features on the Australian and New Zealand editions of SingStar Pop. In Australia, the song was listed at No. 14 on Triple J's Hottest 100 of 2004.
Matchbook is the debut solo studio album by Australian singer-guitarist, Ian Moss, a member of pub rockers, Cold Chisel. Six of its ten tracks were written by fellow Cold Chisel bandmate, Don Walker, and three were co-written by Moss and Walker. The album was released in August 1989 and peaked at number 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart; it remained in the Top 10 for 14 weeks and shipped more than 200,000 copies. It also reached the Top 20 on the Official New Zealand Music Chart.
Kaz James is an Australian singer-songwriter and DJ. He was raised in Melbourne and is of Italian and Greek origin. He released his first solo album, If They Knew, in 2008.
Pacifica is the third studio album by Australian electronic duo The Presets. The album was released in Australia by Modular Recordings on 7 September 2012. It was released the following week by Casablanca / Universal Republic. The album features the singles "Youth in Trouble", "Ghosts", "Promises", "Fall" and "Push". The album was Triple J's Feature Album, Radar Radio's Feature Album and Fbi Radio's Sunset Album. The album was produced by The Presets and mixed by Tony Hoffer. The track "Ghosts" featured on the soundtrack of FIFA 13.
Sean Berchik, known professionally as Seany B, is an Australian singer, songwriter, MC, record producer and DJ, who is best known for featuring on TV Rock's 2006 hit "Flaunt It" which topped the ARIA Charts for 5 weeks and went on to win two ARIA Awards for Best Dance Single as well as Highest Selling Single in 2006 as well as featured on Vanessa Amorosi's Mr Mysterious, which peaked at No. 4 in 2010 and was certified platinum. He has toured America and Europe
Sleep in the Water is the debut album by the Australian five-piece indie pop, dream band, Snakadaktal. It was released on 2 August 2013 through Liberation Music with Dann Hume producing. It peaked at No. 9 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Two singles were provided, "Hung on Tight" and "Fall Underneath" (November). In February 2014 The Sun II was released as an extended play, which included some remixes and unreleased songs from recording sessions for this album. The band had promoted it with a national tour in August to September 2013. It was the band's only studio album before splitting up in March 2014.
"One Way Ticket" is a 1967 song co-written by American composer Stephen J. Lawrence, which became Helen Reddy's first single. The lyrics were written by Bruce Hart. It was introduced by Gloria Loring on her 1968 MGM Records album, Today, produced by Bob Morgan. Loring's original rendition was not, however, released as a single.
Holiday Food/Everyone Is Good at Something is a compilation album of two extended plays, Everyone Is Good at Something and Holiday Food, by Australian surf music and garage rock band Skegss. It was released on vinyl on 7 April 2017, at the same time as the Everyone Is Good at Something was released as a CD and DD.
