The Carthage, Watertown and Sackets Harbor Railroad was incorporated in 1871 with the route itself opening for operation in 1875. It was built within the village of Sackets Harbor on the railbed of the former Sackets Harbor and Ellisburg Railroad. It was incorporated into the New York Central Railroad in 1893. It ceased operating in 1949. It went from Sackets Harbor eastward to join the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad at Watertown.

The original Rome and Watertown Railroad terminated in Cape Vincent, NY on the St. Lawrence River. A branch of the Rome, Watertown and Ogdensburg Railroad, commonly known as "The Hojack Line", operated along the south shore of Lake Ontario, from Oswego, New York to Niagara Falls, New York.

Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site is a historically important location in Jefferson County, New York, United States. The historic site is south of the Village of Sackets Harbor, bordering Lake Ontario in the Town of Hounsfield. Two battles were fought near this location during the War of 1812. Some 3,000 men worked at the shipyard building warships, and the village was fortified and garrisoned with thousands of troops.

Whiz Quiz is a local TV program produced by WPBS-TV in Watertown, New York. It invites over 30 high-schools from across the North Country to participate in a quizbowl-style tournament. It debuted in 1980, and has been on the air since. The show airs on WPBS Mondays through Thursdays at 7:30 p.m in the months of October and November. The American Championship Game starts at 8:00 p.m. The Championship Match is an hour-long show, with double the amount of questions.
Sackets Harbor and Saratoga Railroad Company is a predecessor railroad to the Delaware and Hudson Railway's Tahawus Branch. It was not completed, although 60 miles (97 km) of it was eventually built from Saratoga Springs to North Creek. It was chartered in 1848, incorporated 1852 and surveyed in 1853. Approximately 20 miles (32 km) of disconnected grade was built in 1854. The railroad was then reorganized as the Lake Ontario & Hudson River Railroad. When the charter requirements were completed in 1871, the company was granted ownership of some 800,000 acres (3,200 km2) of Adirondack woodland. In 1902, the Board of Railroad Commissioners relieved the railroad of its obligation to build the railroad beyond North Creek, effectively extinguishing the concept of the SH&S.
