Catalina "Katty" López Samán also known by her married name Catalina Focil-Saman (born February 27, 1983 in Guayaquil) is an Ecuadorian beauty pageant contestant and certified make-up artist who won Miss Ecuador 2006. She competed in the third season of the Univision reality series Nuestra Belleza Latina in the United States and came in third place.

The term refers largely to contests for women such as the Big Four international beauty pageants.

Early life

Her mother died eight months after her birth, leaving her to be raised by her uncle Raul and aunt María Luisa. López considers them her parents and says, "they are the motivation of my life and the cornerstone of my philosophy". [1] She has four siblings: Raúl, Luigi, Mariuxi and Juanito. [1]

Miss World Cup 2006

López represented her country in Miss World Cup 2006 in Germany where she placed as 2nd runner-up. [2]

Guayas Province Province in Ecuador

Guayas is a coastal province in Ecuador. It is bordered to the west by Manabí, Santa Elena, and the Pacific Ocean ; to the east by Los Ríos, Bolívar, Chimborazo, Cañar, and Azuay; to the north by Los Ríos and Bolívar; and to the south by El Oro and the Pacific Ocean.

The Miss Ecuador 2006 was on March 16, 2006. There were 16 candidates for the national title. As Miss Ecuador 2006 was elected Catalina López, she was crowned by Ximena Zamora from Pichincha. The winner represented Ecuador at Miss Universe 2006.

Nuestra Belleza Latina 2009

López auditioned in Los Angeles for the Nuestra Belleza Latina series and was among the twelve to participate in the Miami-based competition. She finished second runner-up. [3]

Nuestra Belleza Latina 2009 is the third season of Nuestra Belleza Latina premiered on March 2009. Auditions were once again held in five major US cities and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. During the audition process, 75 young women were given passes to the semi-finals in Miami, Florida. With the twist of adding one more contestant named "La Intrusa". For several weeks, Francheska Mattei, a professional actress, posed as one of the contestants to know the rumors, secrets, and even gossip from the girls. The elimination process was quick, with 15 women leaving the first day, 40 on the second week, and finally 8 women were eliminated leaving the 12 finalists who will be moving into a Miami mansion where they will be living together for the rest of the competition. Each week, viewers will have a chance to vote for their favorite finalists. The three women with the least number of votes will then be in danger of being eliminated. However, two of the women in the bottom three will have the chance of being saved, one by her fellow finalists, and the other by the judges. This year they had an "Intrusa", the one that spilled the gossip about the contestants and it was Puerto Rican, Francheska Mattei.

Nuestra Belleza Latina 2007 was the first season of Nuestra Belleza Latina. After castings around the United States and Puerto Rico 12 finalists moved to Miami and lived together where they received different classes of dancing, runway, diction, teleprompter and physical training. The finalists also competed against each other in different challenges. After each episode of the show was over, the audience at home got to vote for their favorite contestant by phone or text message.
