Laura Ximena Zamora Moreano (born 25 September 1985 in Quito) is an Ecuadorian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Ecuador and represented her country in Miss Universe 2005.

An architecture student, Zamora was crowned Miss Ecuador 2005 in March 2005. [1]

Social work

As Miss Ecuador, Zamora visited the center for children with disabilities "Despertar de los Angeles" in Riobamba. Invited by the Mayor, she participated in the traditional parade of El Rodeo. [2]

On 10 August 2005, she visited Los Angeles and was part of the Ecuadorian delegation that saw the mayor of Los Angeles make the proclamation of the week for Ecuador. She traveled to LA invited by the Community of Ecuadorians living in Los Angeles. [2]

She also visited the cities of Cuenca, Tena, Latacunga, Riobamba, Guayaquil, Loja, Macas, Quito, Machala, Manta, Ambato Pujilí, Otavalo, Sto. Domingo, La Libertad, Milagro, Tosagua, Salasacas, Bathrooms, Misahualli, Puerto Lopez and Isla de la Plata as part of her duties as Miss Ecuador. [2]

Eugenio Espejo

History of the Ecuadorian–Peruvian territorial dispute

The territorial dispute between Ecuador and Peru was the source of a long period of intermittent armed conflict between the two countries. This dispute was a consequence of each country's interpretation of what Real Cedulas Spain used to precisely define its colonial territories in the Americas. After independence, all of Spain's colonial territories signed and agreed to proclaim their limits in the basis of the principle uti possidetis juris which accepts the Spanish colonial borders of 1810 as the borders of the new republics. Thus the borders of Gran Colombia which included Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela would follow the borders of the Viceroyalty of New Granada, and Peru the Viceroyalty of Peru in 1810. However, Peru was not satisfied with this and tried to set the date of her Uti Possitedis to 1824 – a time when Peru was officially independent with territories Peru militarily occupied since 1820.

Along with other female artists, she formed part of the Guayaquil School for Contemporary Plastic Arts and was active in militant groups such as the Union of the Women of Guayas, a precursor to Ecuadorian feminist organizations.

Ecuador at beauty pageants

The first beauty queen in Ecuador was Sara Chacón Zúñiga from Guayaquil, Guayas province in 1930. She wore the sash and the crown of Miss Ecuador for the very first time. The contest was inactive for more than 20 years until 1955 when Leonor Carcache won the first modern title of Miss Ecuador and became the first representative of the country to the Miss Universe pageant.
