Artika Sari Devi Kusmayadi (born 29 September 1979) is the 2004 winner of Puteri Indonesia (Miss Indonesia). She also represented Indonesia in 2005 Miss Universe pageant. She's the first Indonesian to be placed as a finalist in Miss Universe history.

Miss Universe 2005 54th Miss Universe pageant

Miss Universe 2005, the 54th Miss Universe pageant, was held on 31 May 2005 at Impact Arena in Nonthaburi Province, Bangkok Metropolitan Region, Thailand. Natalie Glebova of Canada was crowned by Jennifer Hawkins of Australia as her successor at the end of the event. 81 contestants competed in this year.

Biography

Devi was born in Pangkal Pinang, Bangka-Belitung Islands. At age 25 she represented Kepulauan Bangka Belitung in the 2004 Miss Indonesia pageant, and was crowned on 6 August 2004 in the Jakarta Convention Center.

The Jakarta Convention Center or JCC is located in Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, Indonesia. It has a plenary hall that has 5,000 seats, JCC also has an assembly hall with an area of 3,921 m². JCC has 13 various sized meeting rooms. JCC is connected to The Sultan Hotel & Residence Jakarta by an underground tunnel. The tunnel has moving walkways and is air conditioned.

2005 Miss Universe pageant

Devi represented Indonesia in Miss Universe 2005 and was the first Indonesian woman to advance to semifinals, competed in the Evening Gown Competition finished in the top fifteen.

Although not reported to the police, there was a controversy surrounding her involvement in the 2005 Miss Universe pageant. Devi was accused of breaking the Code of Law 281, edict number 01/U/1984, regarding cultural and educational conducts. Indonesian law forbids any kind of involvement in international beauty pageants and considers such as immoral. In 2006, the winner of Miss Indonesia 2005 and participant of Miss Universe 2006 Nadine Chandrawinata was also reported to the police, [1] which eventually traced back to Artika Sari Devi and the Miss Indonesia Foundation. [2] The issue however was soon forgotten.

Nadine Chandrawinata is an Indonesian actress, model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned as 2005 Puteri Indonesia. She has delegate representing Indonesia at the 2006 Miss Universe pageant. She was the second of Puteri Indonesia to participate in the pageant after a long hiatus in 1996. She measures 175 cm in height and 60 kg in weight.

Post-Miss Universe

Devi starred in a musical Indonesian film called "Opera Jawa" (Requiem from Java) directed by Garin Nugroho, which was nominated for 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, 2006 London Film Festival, and 2006 Venice Film Festival. The movie also being nominated for Best Movie in Indonesia Film Festival.

Devi obtained a Master of Law Studies degree from Universitas Gajah Mada. She married Ibrahim Imran (a popular musician in Indonesia known as Baim) in 2008 and gave birth to a daughter, Sarah Abiela Ibrahim, in late 2009. She was cited on the UNICEF website as an example of natural breast-feeding practices for women from developing nations.

Besides as being a full-time mother, Artika Sari Devi also runs a fashion line for kids, Sugar Bebe Indonesia. [3]

She defeated 38 other candidates to win the title of Miss Universe Indonesia 2018 and will now represent Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2018. The runners-up, Vania Fitryanti Herlambang from Banten and Wilda Octaviana Situngkir from West Kalimantan will go to Miss International 2018 and Miss Supranational 2018 respectively. Puteri Indonesia 2019,the 23rd Puteri Indonesia pageant, was held on March 8, 2019 at Jakarta Convention Center in Jakarta, Indonesia. Sonia Fergina Citra, Puteri Indonesia 2018 of Bangka Belitung and Top 20 of Miss Universe 2018 crowned her successor Frederika Alexis Cull of Jakarta SCR 1 at the end of the event, She will represent Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2019. The pageant also crown the other titles to represent Indonesia in Major International pageants. Jolene Marie Cholock Rotinsulu of North Sulawesi was crowned as Miss International Indonesia 2019 by the reigning Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2018, Top 15 Miss International 2018, Vania Fitryanti Herlambang, She will represent Indonesia at the Miss International 2019. Jesica Fitriana Martasari of West Java was crowned as Miss Supranational Indonesia 2019 Puteri Indonesia Pariwisata 2018 and the 3rd Runner Up Miss Supranational 2018, by the reigning Wilda Octaviana Situngkir, She will represent Indonesia at the Miss Supranational 2019.

Frederika Alexis Cull is an Indonesian National Rugby union athlete, actress, TV commercial model and a beauty pageant titleholder who won the title of Puteri Indonesia 2019. She will represent Indonesia at the Miss Universe 2019 pageant.
