Local elections were held in the province of Cebu on May 9, 2016 as part of the 2016 Philippine general election. Voters selected from among candidates for all local positions: a town mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the vice-governor, governor and representatives for the seven districts of Cebu (including two districts of Cebu City and the lone district of Lapu-Lapu City).

Cebu Province in Central Visayas, Philippines

Its capital is Cebu City, the oldest city and first capital of the Philippines, which is politically independent from the provincial government.

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan, commonly known as the Provincial Board, is the Filipino language name given to the legislatures in Philippine provinces. They are the legislative branch of the province and their powers and responsibilities are defined by the Local Government Code of 1991. Along with the provincial governor, the executive branch of the province, they form the province's government.

Gubernatorial and Vice Gubernatorial race

Governor

Incumbent Governor Hilario Davide III is running for a second term. His opponent is former Government Service Insurance System President Winston Garcia.

Hilario Perez Davide III is a Filipino politician and lawyer who is the current Governor of Cebu. He is the son of former Chief Justice Hilario Davide Jr.

Government Service Insurance System

The Government Service Insurance System is a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) of the Philippines. Created by Commonwealth Act No. 186 and Republic Act No. 8291, GSIS is a social insurance institution that provides a defined benefit scheme under the law. It insures its members against the occurrence of certain contingencies in exchange for their monthly premium contributions.

Winston Fiel Garcia is a Filipino economist, politician, lawyer and corporate leader who was the General Manager and President of Government Service Insurance System from January 25, 2001 to September 2010. He has also served as the director and board member of several of the biggest institutions in the Philippines such as the Philippine Stock Exchange, San Miguel Corporation, Meralco and many more.

Nerissa Corazon Soon-Ruiz is a Filipino politician. A member of KAMPI and the One Cebu party, Soon-Ruiz has been elected to five terms as a Member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines, representing the Sixth District of Cebu from 1992 to 1998, and from 2001 to 2010. She is a physician by profession, qualifying in 1991.

Pablo John Garcia will run for the newly created 7th District against Board Member Peter John Calderon. If he wins he will join his sister Gwendolyn in the House of Representatives respectively.

Pablo John Fiel Garcia is a Filipino politician. A member of NUP, United Nationalist Alliance and the One Cebu party, Garcia was elected to the House of Representatives of the Philippines in 2007 and 2010, representing the Third District of Cebu. In the 2013 elections, he ran for Governor of Cebu due to his sister Gwen being barred to run for another term. He was defeated by Hilario Davide III, the son of former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Hilario Davide, Jr..

The Province of Tarlac held its local elections on Monday, May 9, 2016, as a part of the 2016 Philippine general election. Voters selected candidates for all local positions: a town mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the vice-governor, governor and representatives for the three districts of Tarlac. In the gubernatorial race, Tarlac's incumbent 2nd district Representative Susan Yap defeated incumbent Tarlac City Mayor Gelacio Manalang.

2019 Bohol local elections

Bohol local elections is to be held on May 13, 2019 as part of the 2019 Philippine general election. Registered voters will elect leaders for local positions: a city or town mayor, vice mayor and town councilors, as well as three to four members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, the vice-governor, governor and three representatives for the three districts of Bohol.
