The Central African Republic competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, from 13 to 29 August 2004. The country also made its Paralympic Games début this year.
The Central African Republic has sent athletes to every Summer Olympic Games held between 1984 and 2024, as well as its first appearance in 1968. The country, however, has yet to win an Olympic medal. No athletes from the Central African Republic have competed in any Winter Olympic Games.
Mali sent a delegation to compete at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, People's Republic of China. According to official records, the only athlete would have been powerlifter Facourou Sissoko. The National Paralympic Committee of Zambia (NPCZ) is a member of the International Paralympic Committee. It was set up in 2005, replacing the Zambia Sports Federation of the Disabled. Funded by the government, it aims to ensure the training of coaches for athletes with disabilities, to facilitate the forming of sports clubs, to organize disability games, to spot and train young athletes, and to enhance the latter's confidence. Its first president was former wheelchair marathon athlete and Paralympian Lango Sinkamba. Zambia is formally known as the Republic of Zambia and is located in south-central Africa.

The delegation consisted in a single athlete, Thibaut Bomaya, who competed in the powerlifting. He did not win a medal, finishing in 11th place in the single round for the men's 56kg.

Athletics events at the 2016 Summer Paralympics were held in the Estádio Olímpico João Havelange in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from September 2016. 177 events were held across both genders where 1,100 athletes competed. The athletics programme was the largest element of the Games programme in terms of entrants and medals awarded.
