Summer Paralympics appearances (overview)

Egypt sent a delegation to compete at the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing, China. The 38 member strong team won 12 medals, 4 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze. Sports Egypt participated in included athletics, powerlifting and table tennis [1] Among Egypt's representatives included Fatma Omar and Sherif Othman in powerlifting, Mohammed Beshta, Mahmoud El-Attar, Hossam Abdel Kader and Mohammed El-Sayed Abdel Kader in athletics and Fayza Hafez in table tennis. [2]

Athletics and powerlifting were equally successful, with each sport giving 3 gold medals each to Egypt.

The United Arab Emirates started actively participating in the Paralympic community during the 1990s. They made their debut at the 1992 Summer Paralympics. Since that time, they have won several Paralympic medals. The country had their debut on the international Paralympic stage at the 1990 Stoke Mandeville Games. Some of the country's Paralympic competitors are internationally ranked. The United Arab Emirates have competed at several other Paralympic events including the Arab Paralympic Games, Asian Paralympic Games, IWAS World Games, Stoke Mandeville Games, and World Semi-Olympic Championship. This was 2 fewer women than the country had sent to Sydney for the 2000 Games. Three members of the delegation, including two athletes, participated in a study about dental health during the Games.

The Sawiris Cultural Award is an Egyptian literary prize, awarded annually by the Sawiris Foundation for Social Development. It was inaugurated in 2005 with prizes in two categories: novels and short stories. Since then, additional categories in screenplays and playwriting have been added. Each award is also divided into two sub-categories: senior writers and junior writers.

Egypt competed at the 2016 Summer Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 7 to 18 September 2016. The country sent a delegation of 44 sportspeople. The team included 16-year-old Ayattalah Ayman, the youngest member of the delegation and the first woman to represent Egypt in swimming. It also included 41-year-old Ibrahim Al Husseini Hamadtou, the only table tennis player to compete while holding the paddle in his mouth.

Egypt competed at the 1992 Summer Paralympics in Barcelona, Spain. The 41 member team competed in athletics, powerlifting and shooting. They won 20 medals including 7 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze, finishing 19th on the medal table. Members of the team included athletics competitors Ahmed Mohamed, Said Afifi, Aymen Ibrahim, Hany Mohamed, Mohamed Abdulla Mohamed and Mohamed Said, and shooter Sherif Abd Alla.

Egypt competed at the 2019 African Games held from 19 to 31 August 2019 in Rabat, Morocco. In total 297 athletes were expected to represent Egypt at the games. This later increased to 330 athletes. Athletes representing the country won 102 gold medals, 98 silver medals and 73 bronze medals and the country finished 1st in the medal table.
